Title: The 6914.5 Mystery Continues
Post by: ChrisSmolinski on December 06, 2012, 1336 UTC
I'm logging this as a pirate, since that is what I suspect it is.

My previous 6914.5 logging was a recording of an OM and YL: http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,9029.0.html

This new one is a CW message, transmitted in MCW (an AM carrier with CW audio in the sidebands, much like Cuban Spy Numbers station M8A uses)

I believe the same message was transmitted each time. I logged it numerous (at least two dozen) times over the last 2 days. Thanks to KU4A, here is the text of the transmission at 0911z from yesterday:

e6ft de e6ex come in k

e6ex de e6ft rgr go ahead k

e6ft de e6ex currently have one vessels underway. All conditions reported as normal. k

e6ex de e6ft rgr copy all k

And here is the audio: http://www.hfunderpants.com/mypics/6914.5_0911_12052012.mp3

Does anyone else run overnight SDR recordings? If so, could you check and see if you recording any of these transmissions?

I'm now beginning to to wonder if this is not a pirate, due to the huge number of transmissions, and the choice of frequency.
Hence my Son of Yosemite Sam comment. Maybe another bored DoD contractor?

Yesturday (12/05) at approximately 2250 UTC on 6915 I heard F speaking in Spanish for about 30 seconds and heard mention of horse races in Kentucky. She did not sound like any professional broadcaster as her voice was monotone and flat. There was a brief series of bells and they were gone.

If it isn't all one station, then it's the damnedest thing. And if it is, then I nominate it as the weirdest pirate SW station of 2012.

Any thought as to the possibility of drug running operations?  I would think more conventional comms would be used, but who knows that the source really is.... Interesting it is MCW....plain EE too?!

Nice catch.

Could it be the sealift transport ships (civilian run) that are used by the navy to transport stuff? I did read and see stuff about them having to be qualified to send CW.

Incidentally, as I am typing this, an episode of NCIS is on where the man they want is the radio officer on a military sealift ship
