Title: Beacons above W beacon
Post by: Mrhertz on December 09, 2012, 1626 UTC
Are there many above the W beacon 4102?
I hear a long dash ( 1 to 2 secs) and then a five second space. Is this a pirate beacon or some
type of time beep of some sort?  Oh yes the freq. is 4106.8 and I heard it around 0400Utc last night.

Heh, the band within "rubber range" of a 4096 crystal is as crowded on a quiet winter night as CB channel 19 in mid summer at a peak sunspot cycle and there's only a few of them we know about.

Any and all loggings are welcome :)

Peace!

I have the freq as 4106.71 right now (0137 UTC, Dec 10, 2012).

Most of these 4096 kHz area beacons are in the US south west, AZ, NV, and CA.  Many of them in the desert regions.

Dec 12 Time 0117Utc  Freq. 4106.75 kHz
I'm just starting to hear this beacon again.
Last night nothing at all.

It is about a 2sec long dash with a 5-6 second space...kind of what I hear down around 4096 kHz.

Receiver r 75  into a 260 ft end fed wire with a very low noise floor.

Happy listening MH

December 13,
Hey I have another pirate beacon, at 4084kHz  been hearing it since 0130Utc...
I would say it is a 1 second long dash with a space every 5 seconds, kind of like the other
one I discovered on 4107 kHz.  This is a lot of fun.  I was getting bored with my standard listening
habits and now that I'm branching out into the Pirate beacon world, if this is what they are, I'm
really enjoying my radio again.

Right below it on 4079 kHz is TMP which is easy to hear, it must run some power.
Anyway I hope my post don't bore you seasoned SWLs.

Dec 18-
0200 Utc 4084kHz  the long dasher is coming in weak but steady.
I guess no one listens to these beacons any longer because I don't see many reports.
Oh well I manage to hear this one and X now and then.
