I can remember the name,but I was pretty active then. I only listened to see which frequency was clear before I went on the air in those days.

So nobody here will admit they thought it was a real pirate station X number of years ago?
As far as I know, almost no one heard it. I've heard OF it for years, and have since heard the 2 existing shows from tape. They are hilarious, if one is familiar with the way shortwave stations were back in the 60s and 70s. I would imagine that the only people upset would be the ones who value the QSL above all else. I believe most listeners would appreciate the creative and well done programming of Radio Morania, and would be happy that someone aired it. But back when it was broadcast, there was no 6925 or 7415 - one had to actively hunt for pirates and probably would have been thrilled just to have logged one. Back then many of us taped what we heard. That way we had a souvenier of the logging even if a QSL was unavailable.

I recall hearing it back in the 80s.

I missed it, but saw logs in the early '80s. By the mid '80s, I heard a studio recording of it & heard that it was a program from the '60s being re-aired. So, I was never really given the opportunity to be frustrated or annoyed by it :)

I also recall hearing it in the 80's, because the signal was not too great here, it was indeed a pleasure to find the MP3 shows in the archives, (as well as Laryngitis, Garbonzo, Clandestine, Voice of Bob, etc) It's great to hear the studio versions because so much was missed, doing the airchecks, etc.

I'd like to thank everyone who responded....I brought up Radio Morania because I read a blurb somewhere in which they claimed the station frustrated people because there is no way to get a QSL (thanks to the fake static crashes) and I wanted to find out if that was true. Caveat lector holds true, I guess...

I just checked back in on this thread. I definitely wasn't active in the 80's. I think I've got Radio Morania mixed up with a station Fred Moe operated in the late 90's?
I never did the static crash trick,but I loved to lower the volume when the id's came up. Make 'em work for it.

Ha Ha ! So thats what you did. I used to think you were up to some tomfoolery in the bushes and too far away from the mic. I remember resting my forehead on the desk, closing my eyes, and holding my hands over the ear phones to catch some of those IDs :)
I usually was pretty sure who it was because I was familiar with your programming, but I was still determined to dig that ID out.
