Just got a letter from Elena Osipov. Voice of Russia has ended all transmissions to North America as of 01 Jan.
Another one. Damn. What's left that beams directly to N. America? N. Korea? That reminds me, I no longer can pick up Radio Japan. I suppose they quit us, too. Haven't heard Thailand, either. Used to be able to hear them. Cuba? Don't care. N. Korea...uggh. What a tragedy is that dump of a country. Just printed primetimeshortwave's paultry list for the "Americas". Will see what actually makes it to the "Left Coast".

Sad, indeed.
Cuba is actually fun to listen to though. I love me some radio rebelde.

What's "rebelde"?

I thought japan was still on 11740 khz at 5:00z .....pretty sure I heard them a couple of nights ago. btw, "rebelde" is cuba on 5025 khz . I too, love me some radio rebelde.

Yep. R. Rebelde is the station started by Castro and his bunch when they were still guerrillas in the mountains of eastern Cuba.
It became a national network eventually. Good music, and since its right across the gulf of Mexico from me, it dominates here on 5025 and sometimes on mw too.

Off the top of my head, the remaining broadcasts to the U.S.: Australia, Romania, China, Cuba. New Zealand used to come up here in the evenings, but haven't heard them lately (could be conditions). Spain comes in well here, but don't know if they're sending to us.
Greece still comes in pretty decent, but don't know if they're sending that to us.
Past few weeks have been picking up Deutsche Welle broadcasting from Africa.
Haven't had much time lately to take a survey of the bands.

Check out www.primetimeshortwave.com (http://www.primetimeshortwave.com) & click SW schedules time sort. It's good. Australia quit beaming to N.A yonks ago, but they come in strong. BBC 1100gmt & sometimes later to Asia makes it accross the Pacific, too. I'll give tonight another listen but last night was bad propagation-wise. I've heard better. Oh, there's a separate listing for sw xmit.'s to America, time sort. I printed it out, less than 4 pages. Didn't use it last night, will tonight. Yeah the pickin's slim, I've heard Turkey, too. N. Zealand was blairing in also this afternoon. 8)

I've been listening to R Aus since 1988 when I started with shortwave. In recent years, its been 9580 in our morning (CST). A few weeks ago, discovered them on 7240 when they leave 9580 and its usually pretty strong for a little while, then it fades as the sun continues to rise.
Used to be on in our evenings in 19m. Haven't had much luck lately with them there. We'll see if success on 19m returns in the summer.
While it may not be specifically NAm, they shoot it out to the Pacific and since we're on the other side of it and the signal is strong here, that's close enough.
