Title: 1134 Voice of Croatia as heard in Michigan
Post by: Kilokat7 on January 19, 2013, 0040 UTC
It may be gone from shortwave but it's still occasionally heard on MW under the right conditions.  This was one such moment captured here last week.  Starts out weak but quickly rises up to a nice level for several minutes:

I had a carrier there last night with a bit of audio, but the language was French. Definitely not what you have recorded there.

Conditions have been good for trans-Atlantic dx'ing this winter.

Awesome catch!

Been missing them on SW. Have poked around MW looking for the Europeans, but so far only see faint carriers and no audio.

We have a local on 1130 (50 kW day, 25 kW night) so this could be difficult unless I take a trip out of 1130's pattern. And 1120's IBOC joins in the fun and interferes with 1130-1135.

The Croatian transmitter is in Zadar-Nin at 44.231400, 15.237448

Google Maps has a bad blurry picture of it, but Bing maps has a clear picture of it.

The thing puts out 600kW at 330 deg.

More info:
http://www.oiv.hr/broadcasting/terrestrial/analog-radio/analog-radio_en.aspx

They say 330 deg, but the following states 315 deg.
http://fmscan.org/ml.php?r=m&t=988

At 330 deg, that puts it to the NAm west coast. At 315 deg, that puts it into the center of NAm. Mpls is at 314.8 deg.

Considering the official plot of the pattern says 330 deg, that's probably the accurate one. Wish they would move it to 315 deg.

Looks like they run different languages at certain times (times in UTC below).  My reception was during the EE time block.

1134 HRV - Glas Hrvatske, Rasinovac (600) - 1700-2345;  1700-1715 (Mo-Sa)/-1705 (Su) English, 1830-1840 (Mo-Sa) Hungarian, 1900-1905 German, 1905-1915 (Mo-Fr)/-1910 (Sa) English, 2315-2330 English, 2330-2345 Spanish; other times Croatian; 4-mast directional antenna at 315°
