I just checked 6M and to my surprise, there were a bunch of signals. Just worked N8RS in Michigan from Central Florida with a 5/7 both ways. It's been quite a while since I worked a station that far away on 6M. 50.128 19:14.

Well, it sounds like you are a new ham or inexperienced.
If you live in Florida, you can have almost every day band openings.
But if you lived in Michigan, it might be a once in a year event.
I have not seen any real band openings this year, but i have worked some out of state stuff - most recently a person in Wyoming, but the E cloud moved before we got much beyond the exchange of our call signs and signal reports.
A real band opening, you can work 60 - 120 stations a hour on nothing but a dipole antenna.
