6970 khz AM 23:20 ut 1-22-13
23:30-23:40 ut Nice wide AM sig S5-S7 Faint modulation for me,
Can hear music sounds like a 30's ish movie soundtrack?
Never did get an ID before sig gone.
Spur makes sense, should have checked that out.
I'm still seeing a lot of LSB traffic and various digital steams 6900 - 7000
so could be propagation favored the spur for awhile?

Every now and then, there is a mixing product this frequency from WWCR. When they are on 6875, and they also have 13825 (I think thats it) it creates a mix that shows up on 6970. That may have been them.
They run an old radio show occasionally that may account for this. I have chased that signal many times,
Thats not to say it was not a "legitimate" Pirate signal....
Not sure that last line makes any sense.....?

Yes, I've been bitten by this spur as well. Maybe we need to contact the FCC :-)

Ok, to add to this mystery. Today - January 23, into Jan 24 utc date. Someone was here tuning up. WWCR was not on 6875. Sounded like the op was tuning up, with long Helloooooooooo's. Also some background noises and bits of music. Seemed to be USB.
Signal was about S4 here. 2358 to 0000 roughly.
Ahhh, I hate that I cannot shake my 6875 "problem". Guess I should drink some good bourbon to self medicate.

I checked my SDR recording. Firedrake was on 6970 AM until sign off at 0000z sharp.
