I tuned in to the 11 meter band with the Hunter Valley Australia KiwiSDR to find essentially every frequency from 26-28 MHz packed with stations talking like CBers. Most frequencies have multiple station at a time. The freebanders are all speaking the same language, I think it is Indonesian. I know out of bands comms are far more common in Indonesia than any other Asian country. Does anyone know for sure were these people are from? I have never seen anything like it.

Actually, the last time that I have was April 1992. I bought the Radio Shack version of the 'Big Stick' and it wasn't great for local rag-chews, but it was the best skip talking CB antenna that I've ever had. Anyway, I heard a lot of Oriental language on the CB Outband Region then, and wondered if it was Chinese, Korean, or something else. I can usually pick-out Japanese. BTW, your PIC of a Cobra 142GTL and D-104? I had that, back then. My audio went out on it, due to a lot of bad electrolytic CAP's. I believe that the dude before me cranked the internal power supply too high and slowly fried everything. Not the 1st time I've seen that in CB bases. (Uh... There I go, on a tangent, again.)

Wow, that music have been a super cool radio to own. Sadly that picture isn’t mine and I don’t have that radio. My CB is just a low end model, the Cobra 19 DX IV. It works for talking to the almost non existent local CBers. I don’t think anyone near me has a CB base station but sometimes truckers and other mobiles drive through here. I am actually trying to get my ham radio licence soon. I finished reading through all the test questions and answers yesterday (here in Canada we have 958 questions in the question bank and the basic test has 100 of them. 70% is a pass for basic and 80%+ is basic with honours which gives HF privileges) and got 78% on the practice test. I’ll probably have better luck making contacts on 2 meters than CB. Most of the time I can hear lots of people on CB when skip is coming in but they can’t hear my 4 watts. In the last 2 weeks or so I have noticed skip has been completely non existent here in BC (and webSDRs indicate Washington state too) while other parts of North America have normal conditions. ???

I had a Cobra 89 GTL back in the day. Same design format as the 142 GTL, but AM only.... plus various mods to mine. The radio is long gone, but I still have the Tuner +3 desk mic.
Shortwave_listener, ya' might look into sourcing a CB with SSB support. 12w into a horizontal dipole at height or even a half-wave vertical can work SSB DX on 11m when the band is open.

I have been thinking about getting a SSB CB. I might wait a while because I see CB’s at yard sales during the summer all the time but I have yet to see one capable of SSB. I want to wait a little longer to see if one does show up locally though because they cost far more on eBay than they would locally. If I don’t find one soon I might just buy one online anyway.

Hearing the same kind of thing now with the Chongqing, China KiwiSDR. Although not right now I have heard it on the Jakarta, Indonesia KiwiSDR as well.
