Title: Medi 1 171KHz AM 0720 UTC 27 NOV 2022
Post by: RobRich on November 27, 2022, 0727 UTC
SINPO 15242 trending 15241 with increasingly frequent static crashing from regional storms.

Been listening for like 20-25 minutes. Not the best copy, but it sounds like typical commentary with bumper music and maybe the occasional song.

IIRC, this is my first LW BCB reception for this season, but admittedly I have not been venturing into low frequency spectrum for quite awhile since my 148' loop-on-ground is pending repair or replacement.  Caught this one with my 31' vertical over a moderate ground radial field.

I haven't heard Medi 1 in years. I had an ancient solid state portable w/ a ferrite bar like a Louisville Slugger that could haul the LW broadcasters and aviation beacons in. It didn't make it back from college. It could have been thieves, or it may have found a spot to spend another 4-8 years of college in.

I had a chance to meet a guy from St. Mary's, PA. in those years. There was a factory there that produced most of the powdered iron in the USA. My home town produced most of the Agent Orange used in S.E. Asia during the little dust-up there in the 60's and 70's. Odd,he didn't want to do a swap.

If your radio stayed on for more college, then it may have a higher degree and won't associate with the likes of us riff raff here. It could be in the middle of research and writing its thesis.  Maybe even studying the propagation of LW over all of these years... which requires times and grant money. And some more grant money.

Grant money is a wonderful thing. I knew a woman, yes, woman, who specialized in advanced mathematics who could apply for and get grant money like they printed it for her. You should have seen the pair of lenses in her frames.
