That was the 207 kHz tower. 189 kHz from Iceland is still on and is expected to remain on for a while, although it will be replaced by FM eventually too.

If I read the article correctly, it sounds like all long wave on Iceland will be gone shortly (sentence in story is written confusingly.).

If you lived on top of a volcano in the middle of the North Atlantic, with elf and troll crossings on the highways, you'd be confused too.

The following is from google translate:
RÚV's long wave mast was brought down shortly before noon today during a live broadcast.
With that, the country's third tallest structure disappeared.
The era of long-wave broadcasting is coming to an end and a more powerful FM system will replace it.
The long wave mast on Eid has served its purpose for a quarter of a century.
It is 220 meters high and on the powerful long wave, RÚV has broadcast daily down into the deepest valleys and out into the mountains.
But now few have radios that receive longwave and the system is no longer considered suitable for security broadcasts.
