Anyone on LW... can you tell me if I'm listening to Iceland on 189kc, or am I being fooled by an overload image? The audio is low, I hear a male singing. Sigs are fair, but my ears can't make out the words... doesn't seem to be english.

Iceland usually shows up for me in late December for 2 or 3 weeks.
I have a carrier but can't pull out the audio tonight.
The guys up in New England can probably get some audio.

Thanks for looking refmo, and giving it a listen. I made a tuner tonight for LW, and was trying it out. When I can't get a real good copy on the audio, I always think of images down there instead of hearing the real thing.
I guess I'll have to wait for confirmation from someone else (the NE members as you say). Maybe I should also put a bandpass filter inline with the tuner... cutting off at 500kc.

O.K. now the mystery deepens..
I'm hearing the French language (male) on 183kc at 0457u quite plainly.

Have you tried to verify with the Univ of Twente's WebSDR (http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901) in the Netherlands?
Don't know if either station can heard there, but its quick & easy to check.
-
skeezix,
No, I didn't know about the Websdr site. I'm just getting back into LW listening after a long absence, and it's going to take some time to adjust and learn about the new "tools" available.
Thanks for the info.
-
Well Skeezix,
I've used the site, dialed up 183kc, and am hearing the French language again I heard last night (0315u).
So, I'm not listening to an image, a station is on 183kc tonight.
... a very nice tool for verification!

Until you become familiar with the band, use this for a station guide:

Congrats on the LW catches!

Kilokat7,
Thanks for the link, and the congrats! I'll bookmark it now. Between the two links, I shouldn't have any problems with identification of images, or the real station now.
I should have trusted my tuner design, but it was throwing me off that those overseas signals would be here this early in the season.
