Title: Pirate Philosophy
Post by: ChrisSmolinski on January 12, 2014, 1606 UTC
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

If a pirate transmits on the radio and no one logs it, did it make a broadcast?

(Log what you hear, let the ops know they're being heard!)

Unlike the tree that falls down, which is the end of that, the pirate broadcast may have some signal leak into space where it will continue traveling. There may be alien civilizations that tune into the 43m band to hear the Earth pirates.

If indeed they are able to log the signal out there on some distant extrasolar planet, I want the plans for their antenna...
Hey...I just remembered that episode of the "Outer Limits" where the guy contacts an extraterrestrial. It was one of the early episodes...I was maybe 8 or 9 when it was broadcast and was into shortwave at that time. My parents bought me a telescope for Christmas that year.
