2058 - Hearing WWV on 25 mHz, albeit faintly, slightly above noise floor. S7

Catching WWV also here with a S7-8 above the noise with some deep fades. When did WWV start broadcasting on 25 MHz?

From what I read somewhere, they are only doing this on a temporary basis, but they've been going on now for a while. They used to use this frequency in the past. I think someone on HFU actually got a QSL from them on this frequency.

I think they started on 25 MHz in about 1948 or so. But of course they stopped that freq in 1977 or so ;) . They brought it back for periodic transmissions starting April 4 of this year. It has transmitted part time since then, coming and going on no particular schedule that I can discern.

Thank you very much. Just shows that you are never too old to learn new stuff. I did check the WWV website and yes they are doing experimental broadcasting on 25 MHz variable with 1 Kw and yes Chris S. did get a QSL from them. ;D

Was able to hear WWV on 25000 kHz for the first time today and all WWV frequencies in the space of 20 minutes.
On 2014 JUN 30 heard WWV on:
25000 kHz from 0110-0112 (unable to copy at 0135);
20000 kHz from 0113-0115 (unable to copy at 0135);
15000 kHz from 0016-0120 (WWVH also came in clearly and copied station ID announcement in female voice at 0129 with "Aloha" greeting at end. WWV station ID at 0130. It was easy to hear the doubled time pips from the two stations commingling.);
10000 kHz from 0120-0122;
5000 kHz from 0123-0125; and
2500 kHz from 0125-0128.
I did not expect to hear either 25000 or 20000 at this time of day but for a few minutes conditions allowed me to hear them both distinctly.
