Just now on 14347usb at 0400utc I heard some ham-sters. One guy was on a boat 117mi from Hawaii getting the weather forecast from a Vancouver guy. Then Vancouver introduced Hawaii to North Dakota guy and they talked. Hawaii at first was difficult to hear but then he was very good as well as Vancouver and N. Dakota.
So Vancouver and Hawaii plan to talk tomorrow morning at 1600utc. I assume around the same frequency.

Interesting, indeed! I will tune in as soon as I get home from work. I frequently listen in on the maritime net on 14300 via Hawaii, so this is right up my alley.

Hey srfpunk138, did you hear them?
14347
1604utc
Hawaii and Vancouver? were on again. VA7BGK? and VA7HJG? not sure about their call signs.
The noise with my skyloop was too loud for Vancouver so I went ran to my vertical magic wand in the back yard and then I could hear them both great.
Hawaii is now 60mi from the islands and there is no wind. The sun rose for him 10min prior. He sees no other boats, just birds. Vancouver recommended he calibrate his digital barometer.
HAwaii doesn't think he'll make it by tonight. they plan to talk again tonight prob. around 0400utc like last night.
I just remembered last night Hawaii was talking of using a sextant with stars. I wonder if its his main form of navigating because today he said he looks forward to looking out the window and seeing islands so he knows he's in the right place and not somewhere in the middle of the ocean.

I haven't heard these guys but about six months ago heard a woman who was solo sailing around the world, who was talking with a couple hams in the U.S. She was about 300 miles (or km?) off the Canadian coast at the time.
Sometimes you hear a lot of interesting and surprising stuff on the ham bands.
