Since the topic briefly came up just recently, I thought I might point out that there's a nice article in the RadioReference wiki on this topic. Not only does it have lots of links to popular models, there's links to reviews, software support, digital decoding packages that work with some SDRs, and more.

It's not meant to be completely comprehensive - it's a field that's constantly growing - but it's a good place to start if you want to research this topic. With the virtual death of new HF desktop receivers being made, this is the wave of the future

Come in off the ledge, Al. There are plenty of old regens for sale on the internet. You could shut down SDR's for miles around with a few of those.
