Very fast sweeping from low to high frequency (abt 2hz) versus the slow ones found daily in 4.5Mhz area.
Appeared in the 160M phone band almost nightly for about a week. Also near the 60M amateur band one night.
My location is south east NH. Folks on 160M were complaining about it all over the east coast and into the Midwest.
Frequencies used were:
1915
3185
3250
4400
5300
I have many screen shots, but posting them here I have to shrink them down to 30% of original. I hope you can see them!

Got the following email forwarded by another ham:
This confirms my suspicions about the signal on 1915 kHz. The system
also operates on 3250, 4400 and 5300 kHz.
Northern Radar is the contractor responsible for installing the hardware.
As Mr. Hansen of Northern Radar correctly notes, 1850-2000kHz is a
shared allocation in Canada...amateur, radiolocation and
radionavigation.
If they continue testing it through the weekends of the CQ160M contest
in January and February, I suspect there will be many more complaints.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I was out of the office
late last week.
Yes, we are involved in the HFSWR installation in Nova Scotia. It is
a Canadian Military Radar so I can't say too much about it. However I
can say that they do have a co-primary (along with the amateur radio
and radio navigation frequency allocations) allocation/licence at that
frequency. Also, in the future they will be rarely using that
frequency band (it is not one of their primary bands). They are just
using it now while they are doing the initial testing. It should quiet
down shortly if it hasn't already.

I believe your firm is working on a project with Raytheon to install
an HFSWR system in Nova Scotia.
Recently a new signal has appear at 1.9 MHz +/- that is causing
considerable interference to amateur radio operators in the
Northeastern U.S. It appears to be coming from the Maritime area.

Raytheon Next Generation HF Surface Wave Radar, appears to be a development from the SWR-503 Mk 2 (although I am familiar with the -503 I was not aware that this signal was from an improved version before today's postings). The 503 is in use with several countries around the world, including Canada, Mexico, and Indonesia.
For the kind of range they want to cover the Economic Exclusion Zone I would bet they end up in the 3000 to 5000 kHz frequency range.

I have no issue with them operating at full power during contests on any non warc band.

Maybe this explains what's going on the 75M amateur band tonight:
"Checking out the AM crowd on 3880 / 3885kHz, and since 04:00UTC I've noticed this broadband rip that sounds like a metal grinder. I first heard it about an S3, now it peaks to about +S9 here in West Virginia at 06:00UTC . WA1HLR in Maine hears it from 3850kHz to 3940kHz. K4KYV hears it well in Central Tennessee. (These two are about the only two big guns that can QSO with each other over this.) Whatever this is, it obliterates all but the full legal powered AM QSO'ers. QRP'ers and barefooters are left in the dust of this. Anyone hopping from on-line SDR stations to check this out? Suspicion is that it's coming from Europe. Weird... Especially how it seems centered around the AM portion of the amateur 75M band."

@theDood. Still there @ 1330 this morning so unlikely to be European in origin, wide bandwidth, roughly 3860-3940, S5 to S7 signal.
I guess we could try to TDoA it with the Kiwi SDR's.
I am not an experienced TDoA user, but my preliminary trials show it being in the Richmond, Va area.

It was all over the general portion of 80m last nite, but weak. I suppose the band went long as I was also getting numerous S4285, fax, and other ute sigs on 80m.

We hear this in the mornings (around 1500-1600 UTC) from around 3840->3905khz quite regularly.
We though it was a chinese over the horizon radar (since we're hearing it very consistently on the west coast, but some days we dont hear it).
December 9th at 1500UTC it was very obvious.
