Chris, are these drift nets located in the Atlantic?
Thanks
-
I am not sure where they are located, but based on propagation, the Atlantic is a good bet.
-
Based on the props for the ones I have heard recently, the Atlantic might be a safe bet. But I would not rule out the Gulf of Mexico either.
I gotta remember to start a recording B4 I leave for work in the morning.

FWIW, I've noted much better reception of them in the morning before sunrise, vs in the evening after sunset.

Thanks for this thread OP! I don't know if what I heard is a drift net beacon but it is a good signal here in SoCal. It does not transmit continuously, maybe 3 minutes between sets. Seems to send the ID three times and there is a long dash after a four character set of BFL4 (or maybe BFL5 ?)
1982.990 KHz

Still hearing this beacon right now, about the same signal strength.
BFL4 on 1982.990 KHz
Having fantasies of finding the thing stuck on a rocky jetty at a local beach.... ;D

BFL4 on 1982.990 KHz
Maybe it really is stuck on a rocky jetty at the local beach! :D
-
BFL4 on 1982.990 KHz weaker than before.
I timed it from the start of a sequence of three IDs to the start of the next sequence of three and it was four minutes
-
I am hearing my one beacon again. Having to wait up to 4 minutes for a sequence to start can seem like forever ;D
1982.995 KHz BFL4 drift net beacon. 15 dB above the noise
