That's been a concern here in the border states for many years.  The earliest reporters of the impending crisis were dismissed as paranoid conspiracy theorists, wingnuts and kooks.  Now that the mainstream news media are finally catching on, they're pretending they were the first to report about a problem that was already very well known to the rest of us.
