Have been picking up what appears to be Greek language, on 8.439MHz USB very brief voice transmissions, always starts with "Kompanyia....".
Have noted both male and female voices. The frequency is very active whilst the path to EU is in during my night and into early morning.
Possibly Greek military? Maybe Cyprus? Maybe something to do with illegal immigrants arriving by sea to Greece?
Google has provided me with 8.439MHz being used by the Dutch navy but the voices I am hearing are not Dutch.
Any help appreciated. ??? ::)

These mystery stations have been active every night/morning my time on 8.439MHz USB. Seem to think they are Greek, any one with thoughts on this?
Not continuous so you may have to sit there on 8.439MHz for a few minutes but you will be rewarded!
Must be heard in other parts of the globe beside Australia. ::)

Checked it out from like 0740-0750 UTC but nothing coming in for me. On 8436 USB, though, I get a faint signal but seems to be Spanish speaking. Probably unrelated to what you're hearing.
I'll try to remember to check 0700 tomorrow. Maybe I missed it.

They have disappeared, the last three nights/mornings there has been nothing on 8.439MHz USB, listened for 30 minutes last night and not a word uttered, thanks for looking...

Nothing again, sat on the frequency for about 40 minutes and zero, mystery unsolved, out of Europe, pointing at Greek language. Maybe a secret military operation, people smuggling, drug smuggling, border control amongst many other possibilities... ::)

R4002 & RST111: Our mystery stations back on this morning my time from 2040z through to 2145z with only one operator heard, seems to be a base station, he was getting no replies, very brief calls every 10 minutes.
Propagation was open to Europe with SVO Greece and TAH Turkey markers very strong a few Kilohertz down.
I managed to grab some words from his calls: JohnTay, Sworlka, Pornio and all transmissions seem to end with "Apreeya".

Update, also on this morning Sunday: Lot of urgent calling with the call ending "preeyo preeyo?" Two stations heard but signals not all that good.

It halps to listen for some common words or phrases when trying to id a lang. In the Russian case, their phonetics are often first names, Anna, Boris. Ivan, Nicoli, where we use Alpha, Bravo, India, November in the same instance, so that can help id the lang. Ukrainian sounds like Russian to me so I'd not know any difference, and the same for the rest of the slavic nations, save for mebbe Hungary, Lithuania, and Romania. I've listened to Foni Tis Elladas enough to usually know when I'm hearing Greek. On Japanese and Chinese, I think Japanese is multisyllabic while Chinese is monosyllabic otherwise I'd not know what I was listening to, the rest of the Asian langs I simply pile into the other than Japanese or Chinese group. It's nice to have a section for translations and identifications here at hfunderpants is it not? Hell, there are people in my own country who grew up only a few miles away from here I can hardly understand - I'm looking at you, northern Kentucky!

If you have freqs for their med forces, now would be a good time to tune in, someone shot down a Russian IL20 elint plane some 30 miles from the Syrian coast.
