Title: Outhouse Net 27385 kHz LSB (ch 38) 0302 UTC Jun 28 2017
Post by: skeezix on June 28, 2017, 0308 UTC
Caught the end of the Outhouse Net on 38 LSB. 13 checkins and gave the list. Also mentioned a few upcoming nets.

After the net a few guys talking, wishing one of them a happy birthday (for tomorrow).

0349Z LV404 from MN calling CQ. 468 came on and said "CQ doesn't care."
0351Z 468 MN talking to guy in Louisiana
0351Z 427 Nashville called 468 MN

LV404 & 468 talking, these two are local. LV404 asked 468 who checked into the net. Turns out the earlier net was local.

That President McKinley is doing it for you.  And you're using an indoor mag-mount antenna?

Just got the McKinley after spending a fair amount of time researching between it & the Uniden Bearcat 980SSB. I am very pleased with the McKinley.

That antenna (which I think is a Radio Shack 21-940A that I've had for ... 25+ years) is out on the metal table on the deck when I'm on my porch. When I go inside, I bring it in & stick it on the top of my NC-125. The table outside gets SWR 2.0 on ch 1 down to SWR 1.0 on ch 40 (according to the radio). On the NC-125, SWR is too high and I don't tx.

Have a few other mobile antennas, a Wilson 1000, and a Larsen NMO-27 (which I can't remember if its currently CB or 10m), and a couple of smaller mag mount antennas.

With the amount of skip lately, I forgot what a zoo CB truly is. Its rather entertaining.

I have the Tram (or Browning, or Tram-Browning, depending on where you look) - all the same company, version of the Larsen NMO-27 professional land mobile style 26-30 MHz antenna, currently cut for 27.4 or 27.5 MHz, somewhere around there) and with a decent NMO mag mount antenna it actually performs just as well as the higher end Wilson, Hustler, K40, etc offerings.

That Radio Shack antenna is a classic.  I have the more modern version of it (that lacks the teardrop shape mount, the one I have has a regular old round mag mount but the antenna itself looks exactly the same).  The SWR readings on it are surprisingly good.

27.385 LSB is active right now by the way.

Awesome.  I've stumbled across a couple nets above channel 40, namely on 27.470 LSB and 27.545 LSB.  Spanish language nets on 27.500 USB and 27.695 LSB are also active in addition to channel 38 LSB / 27.385 LSB
