Japan Fisheries Radio Network:
The JFR Network covers HF frequencies in CW mode 3-22MHz and usually transmit on the hour and on the half hour with a callsign preamble then a request for traffic, there are also current weather warnings broadcast. If sufficient interest/comment is received I will publish the other frequencies down to 3MHz.
I have noticed over the past three or so years a sharp decline in traffic being worked suggesting that this service and mode will be retired in the near future, so hear them while you can. JFE on Okinawa has not been heard for around two years which suggests that this station has already been decommissioned.
22.681.5MHz JFS Amori, JFT Kamaishi, & JFW Fukushima.
22.642.0MHz JFR Nagasaki, JFR2 Nagasaki & JFX Kagoshima.
22.606.5MHz JFG Shizouka, JFM Muroto & JFH Mie.
17.231.0MHz JHA Ibaraki & JFC Kanagawa.
17.180.0MHz JFE Okinawa
17.140.0MHz JFR2 Nagasaki,
17.132.0MHz JFS Amori, JFT Kamaishi & JFW Fukushima.
17.014.0MHz JFR Nagasaki, JFX Kagoshima.
16.976.8MHz JFG Shizouka, JFM Muroto & JFH Mie.
16.942.8MHz JSB Hokkaido.
13.024.5MHz JSB Hokkaido
12.880.0MHz JFE Okinawa
12.858.0MHz JFT Kamaishi & JFW Fukushima.
12.832.5MHz JFC Kanagawa & JHA Ibaraki.
12.811.5MHz JFM Muroto, JFH Mie
12.704.5MHz JFR2 Nagasaki, JFX Kagoshima
HLF, HLJ, HLO, HLW etc Korea Telecom transmitters are all 3Kw to Log Periodic antennas from an area outside Seoul.
SVO Olympia Radio uses 10Kw transmitters to ND TCI 540-2-04 antenna system at Volakas, west of Athens on the coast.
TAH Istanbul Radio, Turkey runs a 10Kw transmitter, antenna system not known, transmitter near Istanbul.
XSG & XSQ China, transmitter and antenna array not known.
China has made quite a few changes in the past year, mostly call sign changes, however, some new stations appeared from July 2022, four new frequencies have appeared (4.210.5MHz, 8.421.0MHz, 12.624.0MHz and 16.850.3MHz) and three had call sign changes with former "XSQ" stations on 4.212.0MHz, 12.613.0MHz & 16.880.0MHz now signing as "de XSG", however, the "de" portion was dropped later around July & August 2022. It often reverts back to "XSQ" as noted on Mon 06th Dec 2022 at 0530z.
Off particular note is 12.613.0MHz "XSQ" which was noted signing as "de XSG" on Friday 08th of March 2024 at 0740z, however, on Friday 09th of March at 0902z it had reverted back to "XSQ".
The last change we had was in September/October 2020 some Chinese beacons changed call signs, some XSG became XSQ and vice versa. Also 4.215.0MHz "de XSG" had the "de" dropped from the identifier and reverted back to just "XSG" rather than "de XSG". On 16.880.0MHz it has been noted that previous "XSQ" has reverted back to "de XSG" observed on Tuesday 04th of July 2023. It later reverted back to "XSQ".
"WLO" American beacons: The "WLO" beacons out of Mobile, Alabama USA have been deleted from the list as no longer on air.
Telecom Korea HLO, HLW, HLJ, HLG etc: These HF band CW transmissions ceased on all frequencies during late 2022 and all stations have been officially closed. Thus they all have been removed from the listings as of March 2024.
SVO Olympia Radio: Near Athens, in Greece, has not been heard here on 6.321.5MHz CW since September 2020, no recent reports have been seen on other radio websites nor have been reported here so it would be safe to assume that this service has been terminated.
For those who collect QSL cards SVO, TAH and HLF, HLG, HLJ, HLO & HLW have issued QSL cards to DXers in the past, providing you send a report in UTC date/time format. The Chinese stations, as far as I know, do not QSL.
Where time permits I will try an update the list each month.

Yes, you may add this from my log:
1435z 4.009.0 MHz CW "VVV de 4XZ 4XZ" Israeli Navy, Haifa, Israel 599 report. (hrd 13th August 2020)
A rarely used frequency for Haifa Naval.
-
Thank you Costas, by chance, did you hear 4.331.0MHz at the same time? Interesting to see if they were both on air together, at present 1625z I have 4.331.0MHz at 419 report but nothing on 4.009.0MHz. LG :)
You logging has been added to the main list, thanks again...LG
-
Sorry I did not check 4331 at the time. Howevwe I did check 6607 and it was active.
-
Thanks Costas, when you have some time please check the following for me as they have not been heard this season:
SVO Olympia Radio 8.424.0MHz
TAH Istanbul 4.209.5MHz
4.560.0MHz
8.434.0MHz
I think Olympia Radio on 8.424.0MHz may be off air as I hear TAH on 8MHz regular on 8.431.0MHz.
Appreciated.... ;)

Hi guys.
The following is a list compiled of known active CW maritime beacons/markers both military and civilian, reception of all are in the A1A mode (CW). The last date when heard is shown in brackets and other notes. Please post any new ones heard with UTC date/time, frequency, call sign and report.

XSG & XSQ China, transmitter and antenna array not known.
...
(updated: Saturday 05th December 2020.)
I may have some hints on the tx-sites for:
- HLF, HLJ, HLO, HLW -> 37.176718, 126.663407 (PM37HE)
- SVO -> 37.604181, 21.488436 (KM07RO)
- TAH -> 41.118194, 28.940389 (KN41LC)
- XSG -> 31.310408, 121.830308 (unsure)
- XSQ -> 23.157083, 113.514044 (unsure)
China is not that precise in giving tx positions so tha data for XSG and XSQ is vague.
Any hint on their real TX-QTH is very much appreciated here.
Hope this helps.
Kind reagrds and stay safe.

Beacon listing updated today Saturday 05th March 2022.
Looking for Israeli station 4XZ on 8.319MHz & 9.377MHz CW, not heard for some time, any one hearing them please post with signal report, date and time in UTC format. Thanks.
-
"SVO" Olympia Radio, Athens, Greece, not been heard on 6321.5MHz CW since September 2020, has anyone heard it of recent? Its 8MHz brother is still active and heard each day.
Please submit date/time in UTC and RST if you have heard 6321.5MHz SVO this year, appreciated. :)
-
As with the two Telecom Korea marker beacons on 8MHz, I think it's safe to presume that "SVO" Olympia Radio on 6321.5MHz has been closed down, not heard for over 18th months.
Telecom Korea marker beacon on 22.611.5MHz is no longer transmitting 24 hours, it appears intermittently.
-
The variance of 22.611.5MHz continues, new format heard today:
0150-0209z "VVV VVV VVV de HLG HLG HLG TFC LIST" 539 report, went off air at 0209z.
-
Main list at head of page updated today.
New logging:
1522z 8.432.0MHz CW "V V V 4XZ 4XZ X X " Israeli Navy, Haifa, Israel 529 report.
Is anyone hearing 4XZ on 2.680.0MHz of recent? Please post if hearing it, thanks.
-
The main list at the head of page 1 has been updated.
4XZ Israeli Defence Force on 8.432.0MHz CW come and goes on an ad hoc basis.
HLW2 Seoul South Korea is still off air on 12.923.0MHz CW probably decommissioned.
The 22.611.5MHz Telecom Korea frequency changes call signs at various time from HLG to HLF and vice versa, reasons unknown.
4XZ on 2.680.0MHz CW has been heard in recent days.
-
Three new transmissions have appeared out of China on Sat 02nd July 2022:
1310z 4.210.5MHz CW "XSQ" preceded with buzz tones. 559 report. (Guangzhou)
1315z 8.421.0MHz CW "de XSG" preceded with buzz tones. 569 report. (Shanghai)
1318z 12.624.0MHz CW "XSQ" preceded with buzz tones. 559 report. (Guangzhou)
-
Your hard work in compiling at that data and posting is appreciated. Interesting monitoring.
-
Thank you, glad someone reads and gets use out of it. They are a slow dying breed the marine CW transmissions. I mainly use them as propagation path indicators.
-
New logging, today Tue 13th Sep 2022:
16.850.3MHz CW "XSQ" 589 report. 0933z
-
22.611.5MHz HLF & HLG transmitter sharing.
At 52 minutes past the hour the normal "HLF" transmission is suspended and replaced with "VVV VVV VVV de HLG HLG HLG TFC List" until two minutes past the hour when a station radio operator takes over and manually sends the traffic list. At five minutes past the hour transmission reverts back to the normal "HLF" format
Logged on Thursday 15th September 2022.

List updating conducted during first week of October 2022, any new loggings or observations please submit...tnx
-
List updating for November 2022 has commenced, any updates appreciated.
-
The 450 foot long wire works. Amazing signal repors. Thank you from Wisconsin USA.
-
Thank you, it's actually around 500 feet long as I added some to it a few months back. Works well on the MW & NDB band but tends to drag in too much noise.
For general HF loggings I tend to switch from different antenna's too.
-
Updating of the list has commenced from today.
22.611.5MHz was back as "HLG" today at 0005z instead of the usual "HLF" callsign.
-
16.880.0MHz "XSQ" was noted to day reverting back to the July 2022 call of "de XSG" at 0620z with a 539 report.
-
It appears that 16.880MHz is a shared frequency between "de XSG" and "XSQ" starting back in July 2022.
A similar situation also exists with Telecom Korea station on 22.611.5MHz which alternates between "HLG" and "HLF" for reasons unknown.
-
16.880.0MHz has reverted to "de XSG" format once again at 0010z on Tuesday 02rd January 2022. 549 report.
-
22.611.5MHz CW has not been heard in recent weeks in either the "HLG" or "HLF" formats.
Propagation has been there as three of the Japan Fisheries stations on 22MHz have been logged, also Japanese CB radio on 27.005MHz AM has been in also, plus the Chinese beacons on 16MHz have been audible also.
Usual times for 22.611.5MHz are between 2300-0100hrs UTC with transmissions on the hour, anyone hearing this station please post...thanks! ;)
-
Telecom Korea stations on marine CW look like they were decommissioned/terminated at the end of 2022?
None of the 22MHz, 17MHz, 16MHz or 12MHz services have been logged in recent weeks although propagation has been there with Japan and China noted on 22MHz, 16 & 12MHz CW.
The South Korean marine radio HF network started a revision of transmissions on HF CW during 2020/2021 with the withdrawl of the two 8MHz transmitters.
The next step was during 2021 with nearly all of the 24 hour beacon markers reduced to part time transmissions, 22.611.5MHz was the first to have transmission restrictions in place.
Sadly, the end of yet another marine CW service on the HF bands?
-
It is presumed that Telecom Korea, in Seoul, South Korea have ceased all operations of their HF marine transmissions on CW with nothing reported from HLF, HLG, HLW, HLW2, HLO or HLJ on 12, 16, 17 or 22MHz.
Downgrading of many of the transmitters from 24 hours to part time transmissions commenced during 2022, heading towards the eventual shutdown of all services by the end of the year.
-
logged the 2 CW stations tonight:
8424 khz SVO 0130 UTC 5-MAR-2023 579 Greece
8431 khz TAH 0135 UTC 5-MAR-2023 559 Turkey
Icom 7410 and multiband dipole.
Madison, WI.
-
Nice work there Kevin, nothing heard from the South Koreans? I think they have retired their CW transmissions. Although the Japanese are very active on 22MHz marine CW each day, last of a dying breed hanging in there.
-
For those interested in maritime CW I have published a list of Japan Fisheries Radio frequencies at the bottom of the main page 12-22MHz.
The monthly update of the main directory has also commenced for March 2023.
-
Main listing on page 1 of this site has been updated.
Sad to say, Telecom Korea in Seoul, South Korea has quit the HF marine band CW mode effective December 2022. All of their HF A1A mode (CW) transmissions on 8, 12, 17 and 22MHz have been terminated.
Many DXers have a QSL card in their collection of one of the HF stations, they were always good at replying to a QSL request providing the SWL report was accurate and in the proper format. They will be missed!
-
Updates for May 2023 have started on the main frequency listing sheet on page 1.
Additions or observations welcome, submissions must be in the UTC date and time format. ;)
-
Olympia Radio, near Athens, Greece heard this evening for the first time.
"de SVO" on 12.603.5MHz CW 539 report.
Unsure of status as to whether a permanent or temporary transmission.
-
SVO is heard on a fairly regular basis.

Thanks for that, it was not on the SVO current frequency list for 12MHz though, regular on 8MHz. Coming through now on Monday 05th June 2023:
12.654.0MHz TAH 319 report 0755z
12.648.5MHz XSQ 539 report 0755z
12.637.5MHz XSG 529 report 0756z
12.603.5MHz SVO 539 report 0756z

Not a recent list but the page below does have a list of frequencies for SVO.
Olympia Radio:

-
Thanks for that, have seen those frequencies sometime back, many have been discontinued "beacon/marker" wise due to reforms. CW on the marine band HF is a dying art of communications.
-
Has any one heard Olympia Radio "SVO" on 8.424.0MHz CW in recent weeks?
