Any idea what the language being spoken here is? While the frequency is right on the edge of the 40 meter ham band, these guys sound more like "freebanders" to me. Recorded on the KFS SDR.

Sounds like Latin American Spanish to me, but they're off frequency from 7000 just a bit (I think), so it's hard to tell.

Chanter, thanks for the reply, but to my ears it does not sound like the various Spanish dialects I hear in SoCalif. I posted the same question on another HFunderground forum, and was told the signals are from Indonesia. https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,36488.0.html

Ooh. I stand corrected. That was a tricky one for my ears anyhow! My familiarity with Bahasa/Javanese/other Indonesian local languages is passing at best, and I could have sworn I heard a reference to 'la isla'. Maybe I was just expecting Spanish, so misheard. Ah well!

Chanter, oddly enough these Indonesian ops are sometimes known as "chanters". Some of the time several will be chanting in unison, while probably listening to the same BC station. I found more info on 7000 USB--check out this link:

I snipped this audio link from that RadioReference forum article--check out the chanting on the one minute mark and the 4:30 mark.

I assume it's religious--Buddhist or?
