Title: Daytime Propagation on DGPS
Post by: ChrisSmolinski on August 31, 2017, 2310 UTC
I noticed from Skeezix's graph of DGPS decodes on the 30 Aug 2017 ( https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,36989.0.html ) that he had 3 stations in the middle of the day, here is his graph:

And the stations close to him, snipped from his decodes, on the graph above he received the 3 closest, which make sense

And the graph:

Obviously there are more nearby stations here, but the maximum range seems further. I'm curious what the cause is of the difference in range. Also you can see how some stations, Bobo and Mequon in particular, were only present for a short time. A longer recording may have included more stations? I need to try an all day recording some time.  Ideas?

Part of my problem here is not as many stations in range during the day anymore. Being in the middle of land, with only the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes that are major navigable waterways, not much reason to have the maritime nav stations here (I would disagree with that assessment, but USCG sees them for aiding ships, not crazy propagation experiments).

Also, my loop is E-W, so I miss out on some of those south of me in the Gulf coast.

For a few months now, I've been meaning to put up another Bonito Boni-Whip in the front tree (which appears to be fairly free of RFI at this time) and see if that tiny little omni does better than the ALA100LN. Putting it up in the tree is easy, its digging the trench for the coax that really don't want to do.
