As a freebander in the 80's and 90's I recall on occasion keying up on 3470 or 6670 lsb in the evening when 27MHz was dead. These freq's were more popular over in Europe but a few NA stations were OTA irregularly. Also 13555 usb too i think, anyone using these freqs today with 11 metres being quiet at this point in the solar cycle and enforcement not being what it was years ago? Not hearing anything but then I am antenna challenged compared to the wires I had up at that time.

TWENTE covers the whole HF spectrum.
160m has low noise.

I was more interested in North America than Europe, I have a 50 foot long wire but it doesn't hear as well as multi band fan dipole I could run back then as an inverted V on a free standing tower with a tuner.

Actually gave it some thought and decided here as most operators on these frequencies would also freeband 11, these are not pirate broadcasters but qso type conversations, the other category I considered was the Peskies as their operation seems to be similar to what I was talking about. Found this link through google to give you a better understanding of this aspect of freebanding.

Maybe we have contacted each other in years gone by, I operated as 9AT113 from '87 to 2000, got just under 200 countries DXCC confirmed by direct mail QSL's on 11.

Well I've always been 'Stretchy' something or other.
I used to live in the NW of the UK and was on 11m around the mid to late 80's when the skip was good.
I rarely TX these days, too busy building them!

I was on in the late 80's from here in southern Ontario, Canada. You had 40 FM channels running from 27.601 up to just below the 10 meter Ham Band, when conditions were good then I could talk in local conversations on those UK frequencies, a lot of the time they would not believe I was across the Atlantic in Canada. ;D

I've had a few QSOs during band openings on the UK FM frequencies with a [now sold] RF Limited Magnum 257HP mobile rig. 27.78125 MH [UK FM CB channel 19] as well as 27.97125 and 27.98125 [UK FM CB channels 38 and 39 respectively]. That was only when the skip was absolutely rolling in like crazy from Europe on the 11 meter SSB frequencies too. Some of the UK guys were very shocked to hear an American accent breaking in on their (presumably) local chat channel

I've worked into Mehico via the W1OJ 10m repeater in 2010, sadly it's no longer with us.
