Once you make the recording of a transmission where do you find the file of the recording?

That would depend on which SDR program you are using.

I use SDR# and my recordings are saved in the SDR# install directory. The recordings are .wav files.

For me, I've used Audacity for all of my audio recordings, whether I'm using HDSDR, SDRuno, SDR# or the SDR-Consoles.  Just easier that way.
