Title: WEDG 1620 AM 1930 UTC 26 Jul 2018
Post by: ChrisSmolinski on July 26, 2018, 1943 UTC
I've been hearing this since 1930 or so when I tuned down to 1620.
1939 Playing oldies, right now Three Dog Night "Joy To The World".
1949 "Along Comes Mary"
1952 Blood Sweat and Tears "You've Made Me So Very Happy"
1957 Elton John "Daniel"
2015 "Midnight Train To Georgia"
2019 "After The Love Is Gone"
2023 ABBA "Dancing Queen"
2026 "Love Is in the Air"

Tis not I, from my massive PEP of 92mW on 1620kHz. And, that time period that you've listed would be The Alex Jones Show winding down, live. (And go figure that no one else in WV broadcasts him, thus my niche.) Anyway, what I keep hearing at night on the truck stereo on 1620Khz is Espanol. I've been told that this might be Cuba, but I hear it with decent signal strength nightly, when I'm on the road away from my 1620kHz. So, it makes me wonder just what you are hearing, and from where.

Later in the evening, I had Radio Rebelde on 1620, with a massive signal when using the south facing beverage.

I did not have anything on 1620 when I checked earlier this morning, but now at 1623 I am starting to hear what sounds like oldies music. I'll continue to listen in the background. Hoping for an ID, but non heard yesterday.

You need a hobby Dood. Broadcasting someone no one should listen to on a station no one can listen to ain't one.

1649 They seem to be playing 50s music this morning, "Mona Lisa", "That's Amore", etc. SIO 333, best with the crossed parallel loop aimed NNE/SSW (I am not sure how the directionality works on the upper end of the MW band, I still need to characterize it, so don't consider this any sort of a direction bearing to the station)

1806 Now playing 60s music. "Along Comes Mary" playing now.

2025 Still going, but static levels from storms are very high,

1620 coming in again, seems to be on 1619.988.  Playing more recent music today. Still no IDs heard.
Led Zeppelin at 1802.

This morning they are playing... Christmas music!

Drove around [REDACTED] while going to the store. This could well be the same station I hear around Christmas playing seasonal music. The signal is consistent with what I observed driving around back then.

After a few days of not checking, I am hearing this presumed pirate again at 1630 UTC 4 Aug 2018 with oldies. Hmm.. a callsign!?!?!  Sounded like WCVC or something like that. OK, I guess I need to press record on the SDR software, incase they ID again.

It gave an ID just before 1700 UTC, anyone want to take a stab at the callsign?  http://radiohobbyist.org/blog/mypics/UNID1620.m4a

1916 Sounded like an ID of "Hope you're enjoying the Retro Cafe" http://radiohobbyist.org/blog/mypics/unid1620b.m4a

I am thinking this could be WEDG - years ago I heard a pirate on 1610 that advertised itself was WEDG The Wedge, and I suspect it was from the same area.

70s music today, heard an ID at 1445 that sure sounded like WEDG, and now Steely Dan.

I heard WEDG for the first time in about five years! I was driving in the territories near Chris and heard it with a fair/good signal on the car radio. Oldies and a clear W-E-D-G ID by an older-sounding man at 1800 UTC. This has got to be very low power, maybe even qualifying as Part 15. I need to listen with something to record it on.

Nice to hear you heard it, Andrew.  It was mixing in with a TIS here yesterday, early afternoon.

Not audible now (1139z) due to all the DX stations on MW, perhaps later in the morning.
