Very strong signal, some Asian language? I have heard OF chanters before but this might be my first time hearing one.
-
Thanks to Chris S. I got a 10 minute sound recording of the above. Listen to it and enjoy this new one for Chris and myself :-)

Getting a strong American Indian or Canadian indigenous vibe from this. I don't think it's Asian language.
-
I'd also vote to move this to the HF Mystery Signals because I don't quite think it fits the pesky profile.
-
2251 UTC - Signal is S9 in WNY, audio is good. It's a guess what the language is.
2300 UTC - Signal faded out.

Good evening all,
On the UDXF groups.io list there have been some recent postings regarding a "Japanese numbers station" on 3500kHz LSB.
One of the posters had posted a short recording of the activity on 3500kHz. I had a quick listen and compared to the recordings posted here and to my ear they sound the same and quite likely the same "speaker".
Still no idea of what this is however.
Definitely not Japanese, doesn't sound like Chinese or Korean but it does sound sort of Asian but also sounds a bit like one or another North American aboriginal dialects.
some of the clues of being just below one of the amateur radio bands (i.e. 3500, 6990) and LSB vs USB point to something that is quite likely unlicensed (i.e. pirate of some sort).
I recall seeing a posting somewhere of someone using kiwiSDR TDOA and got a fix around Boston.
This interesting mystery continues.

I dunno, I always thought arigato was Japanese, guess I'm wrong.

Where in that clip did you hear arigato? I'm not disbelieving, I just didn't catch it.

Not in the clip, I heard it live when he was sending Japanese numbers and words.

Got the same signal here in SC, solid S9 at 0444Z, definitely heard Japanese numbers...
-
Just caught a bit of this in Michigan: very strong signal, 6990 LSB, 1/5/2019 and off at 2205 UTC.

On KA1 IIC recording I heard the word Ottawa several times and when I heard it on 1/5/2019 Canada was mentioned several times

Here's a recording of today's (5 Jan 2019) 2148 UTC transmission, from the beginning when he was whistling in the microphone: http://radiohobbyist.org/blog/mypics/6990LSB-2148Z-5JAN2019.mp3

I had my son in law listen to these recordings including one from 3500 kHz LSB.
He is Mohawk and speaks some of this aboriginal language.
He has positively identified these as being "native". He describes the transmissions as "short answers" and "responses". He recognised a few words, definitely words like "STOP" and "REPEAT".
He was not sure of the dialect, maybe Mohawk, maybe not, wasn't sure.
Pesky "Wind Talkers" perhaps?

Very interesting, Graham! Thanks for sharing his comments. Now to figure out what the purpose is. ;D

Thanks Graham and Beerus Maximus - I went ahead and edited the title of the thread to reflect the corrected language source...if this is a "call and response" type of thing, its not too much of a stretch to call it a "net" like the other "peskies" heard in various languages :D seems like these guys are pretty active on 6990 kHz and 3500 kHz.
Windtalkers indeed.

6990 LSB is active again this evening with annoying slowly-increasing-in-frequency whine heterodyne and down-in-the-noise Latin American (probably South American) on-channel QRM at 2229 UTC. 6990 kHz LSB

The audio clip is located here:
https://vocaroo.com/i/s08ZaEUsIBdl
comments;
This clip started at 2213 utc Jan. 7 2019
length; appox 28m with 3 mins of my noise level for reference at the end.
At appox. 21 mins in the word (phonitic) 'che-ca-ta' was repeated several times.
I will not post the SDR video because this was seemingly the only signal I could hear at this time on the 43 meter band... In other words extremely strong.
Remember I am using a 20 meter VERTICAL and an SDRPlay II at this location.
Please comment on your reception ay your QTH and if you are using KiwiSDR for location spotting
