I was just thinking how the US "healthcare" system is decried as being flawed and non responsive when in actuality it is completely effective at its designed task - the extraction of as much wealth as possible from a given patient/insurance/state. Being ex ems and pharmacy, I've seen it from multiple angles. Remember, they don't make any money from healthy people, well, the insurers do but that's not my point.

The money is in maintenance drugs. They don't view a substantial part of the population being diabetic or pre-diabetic as a problem - they view it as an ever increasing customer base. No wonder they help provide bad advice, like telling diabetics to avoid fat but eat carby foods.
