Sugar’s Sick Secrets: How Industry Forces Have Manipulated Science to Downplay the Harm

When Dean Schillinger, MD, was a resident at San Francisco General Hospital in the early 1990s, almost half his patients had HIV or AIDS. Today, he’s chief of general internal medicine at the hospital, and a new crisis occupies him: Nearly half his patients have type 2 diabetes. Many grapple with its horrific toll, including blindness, kidney failure, amputations, heart attacks, and strokes.

While I feel sugar should be regulated as a CII drug, they'll never take my oj or hot cocoa!

Chris,

Thanks for posting this stuff.

Just went through the cupboards looking at the labels on various food items.
They are mostly all loaded with sugar.

Two books changed by health and habits over a decade ago, both by Michael Pollan:  The Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food (read in that order).  However, as a New Englander (albeit a flat lander) I must abide by the first commandment of the region "Give Me Maple Syrup or Give Me Death".  Just ran down to local sugarhouse to refill this morning, a lone sweet vice.
