Title: WAS 13564.85 1703 UTC 29 Jan 2019

My second beacon found...

WAS

It was extremely difficult if not impossible to hear and ID by ear. I was able to see it on the waterfall once in a while and eventually confirm the ID with at least one clear visual when it faded in just long enough for a few rounds ID's in a row. Looks to be about 1200 miles away from my QTH.

Hi Kirk,
Tnx for the report on WAS....that's what ya call squeaking thru...hi. I will be sending a QSL in a few days to confirm your report. Hope you can do some more 22mtr listening and maybe hear more beacons. There are a goodly bunch on CW and some digital modes as well.

Great, I'm looking to put the same setup on the air. Of course, the temperature was -29 degrees yesterday, with a wind chill down to -50 so I may have to wait a few months to get the antenna up.

WAS coming in again today at 20:50 UTC. Clearly audible CW. Faded out a few minutes later but it was as clear as I have heard it. Verified multiple calls in a row. I was picking it up on my 40 meter dipole with the DSP CW filter on the radio cranked down to 100 kHz.

Tnx Kirk for the report. Glad to see you are hearing WAS a bit better than last time. Can send a QSL for this new report if ya want. Has it warmed up enuf to work on your beacon project?

No need for another card. Thanks for the first one though. The beacon project is all finished up. It is settled in around 13562.8. I have an antenna all made for it but as I type we are getting another foot of snow on the ground. We just broke the record for the snowiest February in recorded history so probably won't be outside putting the antenna up any time soon.  :( I may eventually make it solar which was my original plan but looking at the depth of snow outside and thinking about the panel being covered made me realize solar may be a tough road here.)

I will post here on the board when it goes up. CW is MN.

Picked you up again Bill. Lots of fading but occasionally coming in really nicely. I was able to record a video.

Tnx Kirk for the video/audio report. Always neat to hear that pea-nut whistle.
