Title: Wanted TPA3116D2 Amplifiers
Post by: Stretchyman on August 17, 2019, 1020 UTC
I've run out of my fave 'Mod Amp'.

There are a bewildering number of versions out there but I've found that only 3 versions will fit my requirements.

This is what the main one looks like from the top;

https://imgur.com/5Oigs1S

and here pictures of the underside along with 2 others, one slightly longer and one with orange drop caps on the output.

These 2 are a bit long and I have to drill a hole in the PCB to mount in my chassis.

I'm rather in need of these as I need them to fullfill orders I have and wonder if anyone knows the wherabouts of any?

There's images on the net of these but as they are an older design the sellers genarally dont update the image and the newer versions sold are no good!

Anyone, Anywhere?

Help!!

Hi Chris, didnt see your reply.

er, Yes, of course and ALIBABA etc etc.

I was buying them direct.

They've changed the design (again), the new one is useless and has some dumb filter that's all over the place.

I wish they'd leave things alone!

Progress!   Sorry, maybe you can find some NOS lurking at one of the parts resellers?

I've purchased from 2 American, one Dutch and another seller advertising the 'correct' versions only to find they had the newer version and couldn't be bothered to change the advertised image!

There were some in India (rees52.com) but they wouldn't communicate (email system was bogus) and wouldn't send outside India. Found some in S.Africa but they wouldn't send to UK.

I'm at a loss and won't be making any more Tx's (have 8 left) such a shame, most annoying.

If I buy 600 they'll make them for me but at a sale rate of one/wk, that's over 10 years supply!

André, please check the images I've posted.

That's just another one of the 100's of useless varients..

No PBTL, heatsink way too small, no space for 78M0X regulator on underside, no on/off SW etc.

Thanks for checking.

If anyone could secure me 50+ I'd give them a brand new Transmitter!

Why don't you just roll your own?  A slack handful of parts and the IC is all you need.  The datasheet provides the application circuit.  You would even build it into your existing exciter board.

I have but at $8 for the TPA amps and zero work it's a no brainer. Don't forget I'm building 50+ units not one!

That and I have case milled and drilled already...

Do a search for MZDN207

Youve got the first row of hits showing them. Go to Alibaba, try and order some, nope they dont have any only new design which is no good.

Most frustrating...

My guess is the initial batch or two of boards they made has been sold out, and now there will just be the newer version. Until they change it again  ;D

Yes, I was hoping someone had some stock but having searched the world I've not found any since the last lot I got from Malaysia.

I can adapt the mono one for my 10W but not the 40W.

I have 8 (40W) built and think I have found someone with 3/4 more which will be enuf to finish the rest (50off) of the 40W units.

I can adapt the mono ones to fit the 10W case.

Such a shame as the 40W design is super tidy having been essentially designed around the original TPA amp.

Note to self, when building anything that involves getting stock from CH, obtain stock first!

Stretchyman!

Maybe try/contact the (wholesale-) firm Avera BV in the Netherlands.

When I was trading in CB / HAM Radio equipment etc. ( mid 80ties-1995)
they were also "specialist transistors / ICs etc."

btw...  I've asked some radio-friends if they know any supplier(s) !
I'll keep you informed if I get replies!

Your first mistake was designing something around a third party board from the orient...  One-off are the way those folks roll, usually around someone else' design.  At this point your choices are either drill new holes in the case to accept a different board, or roll your own and move on.

Simple!

Hi Stretchyman, a little off topic but I'm curious how you connect the stereo BTL amp to the mod transformer. I've got a 25+25 watt Bluetooth module that I'm thinking about using. Do you have two primaries and connect one from L+ to R- and the other from R+ to L-? That's what I've been thinking about doing but I'm not sure it will work.

In BTL the +/- are S/C so just connect primary across L/R. Ok!

Any more mistakes, or just the one?

It was a design decision and didn't realize I'd sell so many!

I know what to do, you don't need to tell me.

Thanks.
