Title: Recommendations: Resistor and Capacitor Assortment Kits?
Post by: Rob. on August 17, 2019, 1432 UTC
Looking to stock a new electronics bench in my workshop. Need decent hobbyist quality through hole parts. OK if in marked bags, don't need them in a parts box. Digikey seemed expensive, "Joe Know Electronics" on Amazon looked pretty good... any recommendations?

Need 1/4w resistor assortment, ceramic caps, and electrolytics with a decent number of common values. Some of the very inexpensive kits omit several key values and I don't want to have to test every part's value before I use it to see if it is within spec. :)

I bought these on Amazon for experimentation

Ltvystore 2600pcs 130 Values 1 ohm - 820K ohm 1/4W Metal Film Resistors Assortment Kit Assorted Set

Can't beat the price.. Xicon at Mouser are about 10 cents each same for Ohmite or KOA. I have bought large lots of Ohmite on EBay including the nice Ohmite cabinets

Electrolytics I buy from Mouser  I have found some bargains on EBay for Mylar caps

Transistors only from Mouser or other reliable source.  Way too many fakes out there

There are a lot of Electronic surplus stores online where you might find other items at a good price I have bought from a few over the years   Switches/Fuse holder/ etc

I have 40 years of purchases in stock  lot's of UnObtanium on hand to keep my 30+ year test equipment and audio equipment working

Thanks for the Ltvystore recommendation. I've bookmarked it for further looking. I bought some items from Joe Know Electronics cuz who wouldn't wanna buy stuff from a guy named Joe. 😁

So, I can recommend Joe Knows Electronics for the resistor and capacitor assortments. Nicely packaged and labelled which makes them very easy to find the correct value without a parts cabinet. One of the kits had 30 of each common value and 10 of the less common ones which is nice. All parts tested are very close to stated value and well within tolerances.

Small US based business and well worth the money spent.
