"Radar Serbia Radio on air Sat 17.12.2011 !
Small Serbian pirate station, Radar Serbia Radio, will have test broadcast to Europe on Saturday 17th December 2011! Station will be on the air from 20.00 - 23.00 UTC !! Frequency is very exceptional: 2023 kHz!! The power is only 40 Watts AM. Music will be rock.
Real challenge to hear !
Radar Serbia Radio is planning to start on 48 mb !!! Then it would be the first international SW-station from Serbia (Radar is also using frequencies between 1600 - 1800 kHz, but not often because it is overcrowded in SE Europe)!"
As Harri says, a real challenge to hear, particularly on this side. But very exciiting since it is the first Serbian pirate on sw that I am aware of.

Connected to a remote Perseus over in Austria (12/18/2011 around 0100Z). Tuning around 1600-1800 and stumbled across a rather loud Serbia. I don't speak Serb, but he said "Serbia" a few times. This was on 1670 AM. At first, he was talking then would give some sort of ID with "Serbia" in it then the carrier would drop. Someone else in USB would talk. When he'd stop, then the AM guy would talk for a bit. They went back & forth for a while.
About an hour later, the AM guy was on continuously and sounded like he was talking with another guy who was on a two-way FM radio.
No clue if this was the same Radar Serbia Radio or another guy.

@ Maximum Verbosity: There are quite a few Serbian pirates on mw, particularly 1600-1750. They often have QSO's with each other, or with Greek pirates. That sounds like what you heard, perhaps, although there is usually music as well. If it was purely a voice QSO, it may also have been a marine communication (numerous coast gaurd stations use this range in Europe).
Unfortunately, the "Balkan" pirates are pretty much an entirely separate group than the western Europeans I know, so it is very hard to positively ID a station and nearly impossible to obtain a confirmation. Check Harri's blog (above) for more info on this region.
@cmradio: there was a big fat ute on 2024 with data ... not sure of the source, but it killed any hope of hearing radar here.

Must be in the states, because it's not showing assigned on the I.C. TAFL ???
(there's an Environment Canada station in Saskatchewan on 2025... probably WEFAX and a pile of fishboats out your way assigned to 2021.)

Didn't sound like maritime chat. Heard him again last night (12/25/2011 around 0300Z) on 1690 AM. Talked for a bit, played about 15-20 seconds of music, talked more, dropped the carrier, back with more talk & a little music, and so on. Don't remember him talking with anyone on the air this time.
Have seen Harri's blog, but didn't hear anything that may be identified as that one, but I sure wouldn't bet a beer that it isn't.

Sounds like he was calling for a QSO. The bits of music are completely typical of a pirate QSO in europe.
