Kindda' too bad, could have been the last possibilities for, not just raping for minerals, but tourism, ultimate winter sports, radio super quiet telescope station locations, and starting up radio stations. Hey, can't be any worst that Alaska, where the FCC up there has a ravage reputation of going gung-ho onto practically anything reported to be unlicensed up there.

My first thought was historical legacy, as in Louisiana Purchase or when we bought Alaska from them rooskiis. Mebbe we should take a lesson from the chicoms and start dredging sand onto some atolls somewhere to build a casino/hotel chain.

I can recall a policy group suggesting we buy Siberia after the fall of USSR, but I can't remember who the pack of geniuses were?

Lots of Lenin and Stalin statues for sale at pennies on the pound. A man could make a fortune recycling those bronze bad boys.

One of the claimed goals in any military dispute between the US and Russia is they want Alaska back. We bought it fair and square, however. So I doubt they would have sold us Siberia no matter what SRI or RAND or any other think tank says is good US policy.
