Title: XFM 6275 AM 0115 UTC 22 Sep 2019
Post by: refmo on September 22, 2019, 0118 UTC
Sounding good on the Tecsun portable with sign on loop
0126 - “Under The Stars” Morning Parade
0136 - sudden big fade just now, barely audible here. Is 60 meters an option tonight?

0309 - listening on a Vancouver sdr, "Pneuma" by Tool sounding good out west.

0113 Sign on loop with periodic announcements including ID's, "please stand by."

Unfortunately, signal is dropping - started at S6 and has dropped to S5 by 0125 with "Welcome to Radio Free America" and first song.

Sadly, the signal at 0125 UTC is very low in the noise.....way too much static tonight  :(
0130 UTC I can just make out the sound of redhat's voice deep in the noise, with a few brief fadeups
0137 UTC Utility QRM now
0139 UTC Live time check and email addy "Music to the Power of X"
0140 UTC "Capricorn(A Brand New Name)"-30 Seconds To Mars
0145 UTC "Sunset In July"-311 ( Deep fade into the noise at 0146 UTC  :( )

No joy in Poor Brook Valley here this evening....

Catching the sign on of XFM on 6275 using the old CCRadio portable here in Central MN camping in the park at 0120 with a really good signal and excellent audio on the portable. Thanks Redhat, looking forward to a great show somewhere under the stars in these woods!.Could I make a request for Billy Idol of your choosing. Thanks for playing White Wedding my friend! !

Tuned in at 0132utc, very weak under increased noise from midwestern storms approaching, barely hear male speaking, I'll keep monitoring to see if it gets any better,

Barely audible here at my temporary place with a bad antenna, but the SDR about five miles away from me has the signal coming in pretty well at times between fades, despite more than usual static.

Redhat talking about the new Tool album at 0132 UTC and other new songs he intends to play. He also gave the email address and mentioned HFU and other pirate forums.

He also just gave the phone number and mentioned that he QSLs when he can. Apologizing for his backlogged QSLs. Shoutout to Radio True North at 0135 UTC, and now reading HFU posts and talking about the broadcasting conditions, etc. Mentioned my emailed request for Leonard Cohen.

0140 UTC: Canned ID, then "Capricorn" by 30 Seconds to Mars
0145 UTC: A 311 song. Static's increasing a bit more.
0155 UTC: "Suzanne" by Leonard Cohen (Thanks, Redhat!)
0200 UTC: Redhat talking again, reading posts and giving shoutouts.
* * * went away from the radio a while
0245 UTC: "Reaching Out" by Bassnectar. The static is overtaking the signal at times here on the local SDR I'm listening to. My own receiver's still hearing the signal right at noise level.
0246 UTC: Redhat reading posts again, then an ID, time and introduction to song "Spilling Lines" by Polica
0250 UTC: Redhat with quick intro to song "Blur" by M0.
0253 UTC: "Dark Necessities" by RHCP
0255 UTC: Growing interference from a peskie or something else.
0258 UTC: Redhat identifying the just-played songs and then chatting, giving shoutouts again from HFU. But the signal's getting overwhelmed by noise and interference here.
0423 UTC: Checked back in on the signal to find it struggling with the static and other noise on the closest SDR to me.
0500 UTC: Local noise level has gone down enough that I can hear the music via my own receiver at times in AM mode.
0501 UTC: Listening via the W7RNA SDR in Sedona, Arizona, in addition to my own receiver at times. Redhat identified the last songs he played and intro'd "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes. Signal's VERY good and clear of static via this particular SDR.
0510 UTC: Then "How Long" (missed the artist) followed by "Still in Love" by The Stills after intros and ID by Redhat.
0513 UTC: "Stripped" by Rammstein (cover of a good Depeche Mode tune)
0517 UTC: Redhat identifies the last few songs, then introduces "Pretty Pimpin'" by Kurt Vile.
0522 UTC: "Frontier Psychiatrist" by The Avalanches (I LOVE The Avalanches!). Sadly, the signal's faded down to noise level on this SDR.
0527 UTC: Just switched to an SDR in Corinne, Utah, where the signal's still OK. Redhat called The Avalanches' tune a "fairly notorious" song as he reviewed the past few songs played. He then chatted about "breakup songs" and did a shoutout or two from the HFU board before introducing "All I Need" by Air.
0535 UTC: Redhat intro into "The Silence" by Manchester Orchestra.
0542 UTC: "You're Magic" by Brian Culbertson, requested by Mix Radio, Redhat mentioned.
0553 UTC: After another song, Redhat mentioned the late hour and introduced "Parallel Lines" by Junior Boys.
0558 UTC: Back to listening on the K9VD SDR near me, where static still is plaguing the frequency, but the signal's listenable again. After a canned ID, Redhat reviewed the last few songs played,"unfortunately, it has come to that time" and chats about the somewhat lousy propagation, etc., and gives shoutouts (including to me) to the HFU posters.
0602 UTC: Signoff greetings from "east of the Rockies and west of normal" and then a long King Crimson instrumental tune before QRT at 0613.

0136 UTC - Listening in on my PL-880 from the Detroit area.
Barely audible, lots of static.

0148 UTC - Switched to a webSDR in Virginia, S7 signal but lots of static still.
0155 UTC - Switched to a webSDR in Utah now, S9 signal, a lot less noise.  Sounding good.
0221 UTC - Signal going down in Utah and static picking back up.
0235 UTC - Sounding great again in Utah.  S9+ / low noise right now.
0243 UTC - Switched back to my PL-880 in Michigan; sounding great!  S9 and static has went down a lot.
0251 UTC - Back to the Utah webSDR; such weird propagation tonight.  S9 ++ in Utah.
0303 UTC - Heard some familiar harmonica notes in the background of the current track playing.....got a lil' ahead of yourself, I would bet "The Wizard" by Black Sabbath is coming up soon.
0303 UTC - Tiga Lilly - 'What Life Is"
0308 UTC - Signals are dropping all over and the static is back with a vengeance.
0308 UTC - TOOL - "Pneuma"
0319 UTC - Black Sabbath - "The Wizard" ----  I was right at 0303 UTC.  :)  Thank you for fulfilling my Black Sabbath request.
0324 UTC - Peter Gabriel - "Sledgehammer"
0329 UTC - Girl Ray - "Show Me More"
0332 UTC - Foo Fighters - "Saint Cecilia"
0336 UTC - The Flys - "Got You (Where I Want You)"
0348 UTC - Foster The People - "Imagination"

Thanks for the show!

Usually I don't post nonreception, but this is X-FM we're talking about here. There's not even a carrier on 6275 where I am. Deep winter conditions already? Looks like it.

0212 now using Token's kiwi SDR in the Mojave, where there's a signal to be copied. Huzzah!
0224 getting rough over here... time to hunt for another online SDR. Song sounds like it could be "Never Say Never" Romeo Void, but I might be way off.
0226 Yep, I called the song. Getting a better signal on the Sigma kiwi SDR on the CT/MA border, but there's a lot of static crashes here. X-FM ID.
0235 Now on the Uniontown PA kiwi SDR, decent strength and not as many static crashes here. Redhat on the mic.
0406 still sounding good at Uniontown.
0505 "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes winding down, and so am I. Good night!

I wish 60 meters was possible, but I only have the 48/43M antenna here tonight.

Band switch will be happening soon, but with the amount of storm noise out there tonight, 73M might be unlistenable anyway.

If this report helps I have you at a solid S9 into northern Ohio. Good sounding signal with very occasional fading.

Great sounding station on the various sdr radios I'm running around on.  Black Sabbath and now Peter Gabriel...
My local reception is useless,  I can see the carrier faintly but no usable audio.
Listening to an sdr in Nevada right now.
Great signals into it.
Thanks for the show.  Do you have any Nina Hagen that you can play?  Maybe New York New York?

There's a bitter irony to the propagation making the good signals ignore my quiet farm property. :(

Some complete fade outs, but a lot solid signals, too. Redhat with tracks he just played (Black Sabbath, Peter Gabriel, etc.), e-mail address, phone number, "broadcasting from the United States" promo, etc.

PW: Nice to see you on here again!

youre welcome.
i enjoy RedHats programming more than anything else  8)
even though most Kiwi's are not High Fidelity Audio, most are sufficient enough to enjoy good sound on a good sound system.
most Kiwi's are configured for 6khz audio, there are a few configured for 11Khz audio though (these are the ones that have great sound).

Oh.... yeah....
Thanks Redhat. That was awesome hearing Nina Hagen.
I'm off to bed shortly,  it's been a long day for me.  Spent my afternoon filling in police reports as my wife and I witnessed an attempted murder 20 feet in front of us in London.   Blood, gore and screaming.  It's been a rough day.
Great sounding station spinning great tunes.
Thanks for being on the air.

Picking this up with fair reception on my SDRPlay RSP-1a and MLA-30 broadband magnetic loop in Seattle.
EDIT: Propagation just improved, picking it up now with a SNR of  6.5 db

Had to go out for the evening, but had the recorder running.  Reception here was near the floor from 0112 s/on and throughout EXCEPT for a fade up to around S4 around 0510; thought I heard redhat ment honoring a request from The Relay Station at that time.

Thanks redhat, and I will look for you in the future!
