I am calling this one the Satan Signal. It was recorded yesterday but I have other longer and slightly different recordings from another day as well.Up to an hour in length. It is recorded in AM though I do switch to SSB from time to time. AM is the mode that seemed to reveal the most about the signal as it was a carrier signal that I could tune to either side of . This seems to be modulated somehow.
This signal was heard from 13 mhz to 15.5 mhz every 10kc simultaneously . First thing thing I thought was some sort of computer or appliance interference . If it is it is new to me !! It was very strong .
It mostly consists of short (10 second )(each being ever so slightly different than the other) signals but toward the end of what seemed like 10 minute intervals of short signals it would go into a long transmission that would start out slow just like the others but speed up to an incredible speed then stop completely. These long transmissions varied in length and sometimes seemed like they were halted because the signal could not develop the correct speed . Much like a turbine engine that refuses to flame on ,if you know what I mean .
Many decades of HF listening have not prepared me to describe this signal. I have NO idea what this is. It was peaking in a certain direction but I shall keep that direction to myself.
The recording seems to be a little glitchy I think that is Media Fire .
It starts out with 2 or 3 short transmissions ,then into a longer on that seems to flame out then a much longer one that seems to make it to full speed then off very suddenly.

This signal is on again. So if there is anyone listening on the HF bands check out anywhere between 14.5 to 15.3 mhz . Its almost every 10khz and started of weak but building in strength.

Scanned that band a few times. Not a peep here in Chicago.

Too bad I was hoping someone else might be hearing this. It just this minute ended transmission with a very long steady burst then off . Seems to have ended for tonight . This is the first time I have heard it in a few days.
If you were hearing noise on the recording it was likely you were mistaking the signal I am referring too as noise because there was no sizable noise QRN or other on those recordings or should I say very little . I live so far away from any noise that the bands are as quiet as you can imagine.Which recording are you listening to?? Perhaps I can Clarify. The 7 minute one is one solid transmission. I could see how one might think that it was just if you didn't listen to the whole thing.The 50 minute recording really gives you an idea of what is happening over a span .

Just nomenclature. By "noise" I am referring to the "signal" as described. Sorry about any confusion.

Yes it is one nasty signal .....Never heard anything like it in my life. No problem . Keep an ear out for it . I have searched high and low on the interweb to find someone who has recorded something similar but to no avail.

Got any experimenters you know of in your area?
I've heard similar... it was a parasitic oscillation of a poorly designed (or breadboarded) bridge driver.

No experimenters that I know of anyways. I will probably never find the cause of this one out . Its probably someones new high powered washing machine .
It is subject to propagation . Seems to start of at roughly the same time of day but is not consistently on every day . Starts off weak then builds up usually .
I am going to try and use my recording program and see if I can line up two individual recordings on two tracks and line them up for comparison . Perhaps they are the same every night . But I already am pretty sure they are not . I don't think it has done the same sequence twice ,but could be wrong. Its so nice being able to see the signal as well with the computer.

this sound is similar to exper/noise music. particularly Merzbow (my fave band), which uses analog synth thru distortion effects pedals.

It sounds like some sort of scanner or burst transmission, possibly some sort of new superjammer, maybe a new Russian Woodpecker (Chinese?)

I can do that when I have a pickup that picks up radio chained through a bunch of delay and fuzz pedals. See, it tangentially relates to radio.
