Title: Newb question about repeaters
Post by: MrSohk on April 27, 2020, 0216 UTC
I'll be up-front and let everyone know that I'm a total newb at this stuff, and am very green in terms of terminology. I'm trying to figure out how a guy would build the following:

-- my radio contacts the repeater;
-- the repeater asks for a password/code;
-- my radio sends the code;
-- repeater acknowledges correct code and allows access
-- my radio sends a message;
-- repeater stores that message for a time period (say three days);
-- at the end of Day 3, repeater transmits the original message my radio sent it;

Does anything like this setup exist somewhere?  Ive been reading about simplex repeaters, but those all appear to do instant repeats, instead of banking for "x" amount of time.

Any direction or comments would be appreciated.

There are some simplex repeaters that have voice mailboxes in them that will store messages. They don't automatically resend the message. You would have to request it via DTMF code but maybe you could automate that..

I think something like packet radio would work if you want a data message.

Thanks guys, these are all great ideas. Definitely will have to do some reading now, as most of this stuff is over my head. But at least it appears to be possible to build something like this.

This was my go-to site for when I built my 6M FM repeater years ago,    http://www.repeater-builder.com/rbtip/index.html    You can easily spend day researching this site. They can even build a repeater for you out of a GE MASTR II rig, albeit it takes them months to do it on their time.
