Title: RTTY Transmissions
Post by: gcopter1 on June 01, 2020, 2036 UTC
I've got a new receiver and am looking for frequencies where RTTY signals are consistently found. I'd like to get proficient at successfully decoding these.
I'm located in Central Florida.
Every now and then, I find a signal that I *think* it is RTTY.

But when I enable the decode feature in my radio, all I usually see is a bunch of letters with no rhyme or reason.

Are there any stations that consistently broadcast things such as bulletins or weather info?

Thanks.

You're going to need a time machine as well, unfortunately. RTTY news and weather is pretty much gone now. There's still NAVTEX weather, and you may find some left on the ham bands. I am not sure if anything else is left?

Sadly, this is the case these days. When I first got interested in shortwave, I also was very much into RTTY and decoding the signals. For awhile, there was a great signal available coming out of Mobile, Alabama (WLO Marine), which ceased operation last year.

About the only thing that I can offer up are two Internet Teletype stations, one that broadcasts North American news (http://internet-tty.net:8000/ITTY) and another one that broadcasts news out of EUROPE (http://internet-tty.net:8040/EUROPE). Both are streamed over the Internet, but you can at least get a decode out of them using something like FLDIGI.
