Title: Heads up Radio Mali
Post by: fpeconsultant on August 19, 2020, 0230 UTC
Maybe some interesting listening on 5995khz - I think they come back on at 0600z "if they do come back at all" - there are yet unconfirmed reports of a military coup in Mali - one logger has relayed "reports of heavy military presence near the Radio station & the airport "
Note: this is reported yet unconfirmed at 0230z 8.19.2020

I tuned in a bit after 0600 UTC and did not hear Mali on 5995 kHz. I'm up here near Seattle, and conditions are a bit noisy tonight, but I've been reliably hearing at least some signal from Mali at that time for weeks now.

UPDATE: I checked some U.S. East Coast SDRs and heard Mali by 0620 UTC with Afropop music. Didn't hear any news.

Suspected military coup. President and PM reportedly arrested. President declared resignation and dissolvement of current government via state TV broadcast.

Reports from 0600z broadcast - sign on, no interval signal, no FF ID, no FF announcements just non stop African Music.
The situation may affect CRI relay via Bamako.
Thx for the feedback, gents.  Keep an ear on this as it may get interesting.

It's 2026 UTC and I'm hearing CRI's Arabic service via the Bamako relay coming in on 13630 kHz. Also hearing CRI in English via Bamako as scheduled on 11640 kHz (that one's not as audible).

No effect on that, apparently. I would assume the CRI relay equipment in Mali is mostly automated?

I've got 'em @ 23:39z on 5995 listening in LSB playing music; signal is weak, but just audible.

I've been tuned in to 5995 since a bit before 0600 UTC, using LSB due to the presence of Habana on 6000 (which seems gone as of 0637z, guess I can go back to AM mode). It's just been music. Low audio level per usual but clear. I enjoy this station when I stay up late (it's past midnight in my time zone) because it's usually a music program. You'd never have any idea Mali was in any turmoil listening to this.

Kind of like the old Soviet Union TV - when the sh*t hit the fan they would play non stop music......that's how you knew something was going down.

Reports of normalcy returning to the broadcasts though with weaker signals.
Also, Bamako relays appear to be unaffected.
