Title: Chinese language broadcaster 6970 AM 1445 UTC 13 Nov 2020
Post by: sdruzer on November 13, 2020, 1449 UTC
Anyone copying a Chinese language AM station in the "pirate band" at this time? I'm hoping it isn't an "image". It's quite audible at this time... not strong with some qsb. Hearing the station in N Central Texas.

Checked the same freq about the same time this morning, station not present. Maybe not a weekend broadcaster, possibly on a different freq, possibly no propagation... etc.   :-\

The Eibi schedule shows Sound of Hope uses this frequency. SOH is nearly impossible to copy for two reasons - one, it's known to use low power, and two, China jams it regularly with a very powerful broadcast signal of China National Radio 1 (CNR1), often from multiple transmitter sites. So most likely you copied that jamming broadcast. The best way to tell is to stay tuned until the top of the hour. CNR1 has very distinctive time pips then, SOH doesn't use time pips at all. (Neither do any of the other stations they jam, as far as I know.)

I'm not sure I'll copy it again to check out the difference. That's the first time I noticed a broadcaster on that band. On the other hand, I generally don't check that part of the spectrum so early in the morning. I reported it because I found it odd to see a 'caster on that band. I made sure to check there this morn to see if I could copy it again.

I appreciate your reply MDK2. I'm sure you're right about hearing the jammer.
