I've been watching this forum for a while now and have been considering getting my Radio Operators License. I feel like the courses required for the license alone would allow me to learn a lot, although I'm not sure the license itself would get much use, so I was wondering if any of you thought it was worth it?

Do you mean an amateur radio license? Where are you located?

Yes, I confused the name of the license. I'm located in Florida.

Amateur radio is a wonderful hobby. You can find study guides for the exams on-line. There should be groups in your area that have Volunteer Examiners who offer the testing right there.

Well, you are certainly in the right state for it when it comes to the MAX number of amateur radio operators. Ironically, it's also the lightning capital of the world, so not my ideal spot for operating. However, you do have some unreal VHF / UHF tropo propagation down there with enhancement from the Gulf and the Ocean. That, and it's pretty flat down there. http://www.arrl.org/getting-licensed Now, to find a VE Exam Session for your area. Who knows... I maybe QSO'ing with YOU in the future.
