So I thought I'd try to be an upstanding citizen and at least try 10M. I thought it was dead and then Oregon (W1VDE) called back at 5/6 telling me I'm booming in at 5/9 +10 ? and then in the middle of our QSO, a station QSK'd in. It was KB7LAK mobile in Utah saying I was booming in. I never get to be a big dog. Very cool for sure. I was shocked. I usually feel for the people who have to pull out my weak signal.
W1VDE is still calling on 28.405

Yeah, sure enough 10m has been showing signs of activity today. I skimmed by a 10m QSO in AM awhile ago. Now if 10m FM ever picks up, we might even hear one of those usually elusive 10m repeaters.

Yeah. I think theres only 3 10M FM repeaters in the state now. I try to listen for the one up in the Daytona area and never hear it. Would love to try FM on 10. Never done it. My first FM contact anywhere near 10 was on 26 mHz a week or so. Very cool though. Would love to try it on 10

I am surprised there are even three. IIRC, the last 10m FM repeater with a decent signal I heard was from somewhere in New England, and that was like 3-4 (or more?) years ago.
-
Just double checked-
29.660 - Holly Hill
29.660 - Tallahassee
29.680 - Ocala
I remember people talking about a repeater in NY state that has crazy coverage. Don't remember the freq etc.
-
There's one repeater on 29.620 MHz I believe...and I think it's in New York or the northeast USA anyway...during one of the bigger band openings we've had in the past weeks I heard traffic on 29.620 FM as well as 29.600 FM simplex.
Also when the band is opening there's the land mobile users on 29.710 MHz FM, 29.730 MHz FM, 29.750 MHz FM, 29.770 MHz FM and 29.790 MHz FM. I know there are car service dispatchers and taxi dispatchers in New York City on 29.770 and 29.790...plus school buses and rideshare buses on 29.79 MHz or 29.77 MHz. There are several other users of the 29.710, 29.730, and 29.750 frequencies in that part of the country. If you can hear those repeaters, you can hear the land mobile systems on 29.71-29.79

That's probably the repeater I was thinking of. To be in Florida and hear about a repeater so far away, it must have been very well known. This is something that was talked about on local 2M/440 repeaters over the past25 years. It can only go up from here...... Hopefully

10m could prove interesting with the CQ SSB contest this weekend.
-
Glad you mentioned the contest. I'm not into contesting, but it's a great way to work a bunch of new contacts. I'll check it out when I get back from the river.
-
Just worked HD8R Galapagos Islands on 28.495. Quick contest style exchange of call sign/RST
Same station was on 12M 24.894 CW, but it was a negative contact for me. ):
-
Just added LW1D Argentina on 28.451.
-
Just worked ZZ2T on 28.345. I wasn't familiar with the call and thought it was something exotic. Nope, it's Brazil
@ 201:21 Worked LT7F Argentina on 28.385 . I checked the QRZ page for the call and it listed QSL requests were $10.00 US dollars. Cool to work a station 4300 miles away, but there's no way I'd pay more than $2.00 and SASE for any station.
-
Just worked PY2YYZ on 28.028. Normally not too excited working Brazil, but he was CW mobile running some kind of Yaesu Atlas antenna etc. You'd have to be pretty patient working CW mobile. Lots of unanswered CQ's I'd imagine. Decent signal though 5/6 or so.

Jumped up to 10M for a min. It's crazy with stations also. Managed to work EA1L Spain on 28.544 @ 16:33
EA8RM Canary Islands @ 16:44 on 28.446

10m SSB activity noted at 2036z. Multiple frequencies. 25425u, 28435u, 28480u, etc.

Just checked the DX cluster for 10M and see several contacts from SA to Japan. I would love to work a JA. Never had a full exchange yet on any band with Japan.
