For all others, The Buzzer is said to transmit on 4625.0 kHz and 6998.0 kHz but 6998.0 kHz has not been heard for some time. Further reference can be found here:

While monitoring the buzzer I could also hear some music / broadcast in the background. Further discussions on the UDXF group revealed that apparently several pirates are jamming the buzzer and have been doing so for several months now. Definitely worth listening to on occasion to see how things evolve.

Heard it on one of the Finland sdr and it sounds the same as it’s cousin the Pip.

It looks like the old sound is back.  :)

I like to monitor the buzzer on the kiwiradio below but since a while the buzzer is "obscured".
The waterfall shows a black line and there is no sound at all on the frequency.

Any thoughts on what's going on?

Interesting, even the link I was using http://izh.swl.su:8073/?f=4625usb (http://izh.swl.su:8073/?f=4625usb) has that slice of spectrum removed. I am not a KiwiSDR expert but maybe Chris can answer this one. Sounding good on the University of Twente Web SDR.

03:55 UTC - Update: I was just playing with one of Chris's KiwiSDRs and it has the 4043.5 kHz USB MARS frequency removed, identical scenario to that of the Buzzer on 4625.0 kHz;
04:00 UTC - Monitoring via the HFU 500 ft Beverage KiwiSDR. The Buzzer is good readable along with some music playing in the background.

Owners of the KiwiSDRs can remove sections of the spectrum for any reason they feel are necessary.

I was just listening to your Kiwi. Considering that we are not that far apart, it is interesting how your receiver picks up some stations that I do not hear. The wide band data at 6909 kHz and the twin LINK-11 UTE at 6930 kHz to name 2 of them.

Yes, and they have jumped up in price as well. Sometimes a used one will appear online. Asking around here and the HFU Discord chat might get some action.


I was just listening to your Kiwi. Considering that we are not that far apart, it is interesting how your receiver picks up some stations that I do not hear. The wide band data at 6909 kHz and the twin LINK-11 UTE at 6930 kHz to name 2 of them.

I often check other "local" Kiwis with good antennas (K3FEF and W1EQX) to compare the signals heard. It is pretty neat to see how a hundred miles or so complete changes the signal strength, fading, or even whether you can hear it or not. Sometimes you can sync the audio from two Kiwis and listen to things using diversity reception. Watching a signal fade from north to south or in reverse is interesting.

I am fortunate to have a decent location with fairly low noise so that helps a bit as well. I actually have about 8 dB of attenuation from the antenna multicoupler which helps because R. Marti on 41m often overloads the receivers.

Perhaps the Buzzer was to popular and kept users to long "logged on" and since there is a maximum number of users, that is not ideal.
