Title: 486 KHz Reginald Fessenden commemorative broadcast tonight
Post by: Kilokat7 on December 31, 2012, 1257 UTC
I saw this on another list that may be of interest here:

All,

Brian, WA1ZMS, in Forest VA plans to re-run a replica of Reginald
Fessenden’s first aural transmission on New Year’s Eve; he first ran the
transmission on 486 kHz this past Christmas eve under the WD2XSH/31
experimental call sign, and I was able to hear the broadcast in
Pennsylvania. Please see the forwarded email below for the details of his
New Year's Eve transmission. Brian is active in 600 meter experimental work
and collects early wireless gear. You can see the transmitter that Brian
uses at this URL: http://w4dex.com/500khz/wd2xsh31.htm

If you do log his station, I am sure he would appreciate a report.

73,

Brett Saylor

Subject: RE: WG2XFQ on 486Khz....

Please pass the word….

WG2XFQ should be QRV (on the air) by late afternoon on Dec 31st.

I will let it run through at least New Year’s Day.

Freq 486kHz.

ERP 20W into Marconi-T at 70ft.

Same audio loop as for the X-Mass event, with a comment that this
transmission is a repeat of the original X-Mass 2012 transmisssion.****

-Brian, WA1ZMS/4 & WD2XSH/31 & WG2XFQ in Forest, VA.

I'm hearing faint music on 485.93 @ 0416z, AM mode.  Strong carrier with low modulation that fades out for long periods.

Very cool Tim. Thanks for posting. Wish I had caught this earlier.

Geez, I have a lot of noise there tonight.  I hope my neighbors didn't get a new plasma screen for Christmas....

I have a definite carrier on 486khz, and possibly some music, but below the noise so could be imaginary......

Definitely hearing some music around 0215z, but not good enough to ID.  Pretty strong signal, but my noise is outrageous tonight.

WA1ZMS has this station on the air again tonight.  Catch it while you can tonight, you may not hear it again until next Christmas.
