HF Mystery Signals / New digi mode on 4207cf ?
« on: November 06, 2020, 1207 UTC »
Any ideas?

I'll try to get a wide bandwidth recording but not having much luck as yet.  I think it's transmitting at top/bottom of hour.  This was captured @ 1200z on 11-6-2020:

The R-8600, does not require me to go out and purchase another Power Supply as I already own a Radio Shack model suitable for the job.

So you'd really put your shiny & new, $2200 receiver on a R/S power supply..?

Just to be clear, this is pretty dull stuff... it's not very exciting.   ;)

This morning (3/27) they're on 7020 LSB.   ::)

Nice signal Jasmine.  Yes, the Pacific is open to a lot of stations in/around the Far East in the early morning hours.  Some days are better than others.  In ancient times, there were these 'dark spots' on the surface of the Sun -- humans called them "sunspots" -- and they would actually enhance HF communications especially during the summer months.

Of course, these sunspots are a mystery in the cold, dark misery of present-day times.

Gotta love CODAR!  ::)

I think it's more likely due to propagation.  At least here in the USA, the seasonal changes should be bringing a little help.  I noticed a lot of fishermen chatting in the early morning hours coming in over the Pacific ocean.

Amateur Radio / Re: Thoughts on HF verticals

However, performance on 15 has been excellent and on 40 it has been phenomenal.

But all verticals are usually good on one band -- and if they're not -- then you know you got a lemon.  This is just how verticals work.  (They should work well on at least 3 bands really.)  This is not due to a specific brand of vertical.  My guess is you probably have other factors that help with your perceived performance.

I think I'll leave the 718 stock since I'll likely sell it at some point. Didn't realize 60m was that popular being it has a small amount of frequencies.

Well it's not but a few people use it to get away from those 'other' users.  I'd modify your 718 -- you'll get more selling value than leaving it stock. ;)

Really??? Your IC-718 isn't open to 5MHz on TX?

Well to be clear, he'd have to perform the MARS/CAP mod to make this work.

it's not proprietary. it's not an audio wave but an IQ (spectrum) recording.

Why not just provide an audio clip?  Just my .02 but you'll probably get more responses with it.

This must be a proprietary format for SDRuno.  I'm hearing only static bits.

I too am looking into an HF vertical. Only interested in the 10-40meter bands only.

Stay away from these 'commercial' antennas.  They're junk.  Do searches for CHA250B and BB7V...  you'll find glowing reviews but a few people dissected their components and found that most offer very little for their steep prices.

I highly recommend Zero-Five:  https://zerofive-antennas.com/productdisplay/10-40-meter-groundplane-freestanding-vertical-antenna-unun

(This is the antenna I have...)

General Radio Discussion / Room Monitors
« on: March 09, 2020, 2151 UTC »
Does anyone know of a room monitoring device that operates @ 254 Mhz?  I found one in my neighborhood.  I haven't listened too long but I was able to drive around and I.D. the general street that the signal is coming from.  It's < 1.5 miles LOS from my discone.

A friend and I were thinking of some Chicom ripoff using the odd UHF frequency.  I searched Amazon but most seem to be using either WiFi or 2.4 Ghz RF -- and if they are using RF, most generally don't mention the frequency range.

The RF Workbench / Re: Icom 718 problems

Sounds like either a lightning hit, or the transmit/receive switching failed to operate correctly.

...or tx'ing w/o an antenna would do the trick!
