Utility / 6.507 Mhz ?
« on: November 25, 2021, 1322 UTC »
Just turned on my radio and it was on 6 MHZ from last night. I started tuning and came across a strong signal on 6.507 USB. The operator was speaking English with a bit of an accent. Most of the content seemed to focus on weather reports. It started off strong but began to fade rapidly and I was unable to hear what particular areas of the world were being discussed. I did some googling and all I found was were references to Charleville, Australia. It seems it bit odd if it is since I'm in Florida and it's 8:15 am local time 13:15 UTC. Let me know what you think?

After hitting send, the signal came back up and definitely referenced Austalia. Seems a bit odd to me having this type of propagation on 6 MHZ this time of day?

25.000 WWV is booming into Florida at 20 over 9. Never heard it this well. I saw that 10/11M was active and decided to check it. (19:33)

10/11 meters / 11M Band conditions

(19:22 ) 27.385 LSB is quite active this afternoon. Hearing stations from CA, AZ, CO etc.

Things were too busy on 11M, but I did manage to work KE7JNT Oregon on 28.475 USB At 19:45. Not a huge signal, but perfectly workable.

(20:28) Barely hearing anything

Utility / Identifying Utility stations
« on: November 18, 2021, 1727 UTC »
What online resource do you find to be the best for identifying Utility stations? Most of the time I just google or look on 'Whats on shortwave now' if it's a broadcast station. Hoping to find a list in a Klingenfuss type layout. Thanks

Yeah. I haven't done much more than standard exchanges and maybe discussing the weather etc. I'm gonna try to get on later this afternoon after dinner.

That's a good point about newcomers. Most of the people that operate PSK31 and other digital modes, know how to send pre-written info without having to constantly re-type it. Such as Name, QTH, Station set-up etc. I will try to learn that at some point. It's not something I want to pursue every day, but it's nice to change things up every now and again. One station I worked in NJ was running 2 watts. They also had a tri-bander yagi though. I have heard RTTY is still active. I will give it a try sometime.
