Posting this for my sibling.  I do have an audio recording, and we're still getting it right now:

Quote
From my radio in the Mojave Desert, I noticed something unusual last night that I heard on 590KHz.  It was a whining, grinding-like noise.  I checked again in the morning and it showed up another receiver on the following frequencies (all in KHz): 590, 620, 690, 870-990, 1110, and 1610.  It doesn't seem to be affecting local stations all that much except the occasional noise on KWDJ at 1360 KHz.

I have made a recording of the audio log.  It seems to be appearing on other receivers too.

ETA: Here's the clip. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ih5djp2bq2gyqb/0.590_2018-04-01_00-23-43.wav?dl=0

Shortwave Broadcast / UNID Italian 9435 kHz 1145-0130 UTC
« on: November 22, 2017, 1246 UTC »
Times listed are the times we were able to pick it up, not necessarily the times of the broadcast.  It seems to have faded with the oncoming sunrise.

An interesting UNID, because there are no stations broadcasting at that time with that language that I can find, but it had a call sign and a female voice, with light pop music bordering on soft jazz.  Call sign was illegible, though, due to some QRM at that second.  Reception was middling-to excellent, though hanging around S3-S5 the entire broadcast.

Received with varying levels of loundess on my Realistic, Pashpaw, my sibling, caught it on a constant but quiet level with their SDR, in South-Central CA.

I'm really posting this because I have no idea, but I want to know.

The really weird thing is, in trying to pin down a location, I couldn't.  There's not many nodes on GT nowadays, but I tried various ones including Korea, Canada, Romania, France, Minnesota, and Arizona, but no extra CA nodes since there are none active right now.  I couldn't find it elsewhere, and I like to think I covered most of the globe with that selection.

EDIT: That's 1130-1230 UTC.  I'd just woke up when I posted this, and hopped on shortwaves first thing.  I'm apparently no good DXing without coffee.

Heard your callsign over Token's node.  I couldn't pick you up with my Realistic.  S2 on Token, S Nada on my equipment.  Too bad, I miss your stuff. ;)

ETA: Thriller, barely.  ;D

S3 in the Mojave here.  Really noisy.

Caught S9 in Upper-Southern CA.  Stop Dragging My Heart Around.  Good quality, good show. :)

6
Caught an ID at 0302 on 6.945 mHz.  That's when the band started kicking in. :)

RTN, Good signal (S7-S8) on 6930 AM at 0414

SuperTramp Long Way Home at 0418

Last song I got.  Anyone know what the male, synthpop sounding song after Kraftwerk and before Supertramp was?

8
Sadly, lots of qrm on new frequency.  S3-4

9
Caught RTN at 7925 kHz, 0340, duringthe middle and end of Talk Talk's It's My Life, followed by a female callsign identifying as Radio True North.  Faint, but getting stronger, here as the sunset goes.

S4-5 right now.  Nice to hear from you!

Carrier originally heard long before proper signal came in. :)

Around 0345, heard The Voice, Moody Blues

0350, Face to Face, Pete Towsend

0355, Numbers and Computer World, Kraftwerk, Minmax version?  Signal now around S7

0402 Moved to 6930 khz

Sounds like a funner day than mine  :P I'd love to be out and about in the valley right now.

Good signal, regardless.  I hope this is solved soon, but them we'd need a new mystery. :)

Got them again, using your GT Node.  I wonder if someone set up shop outside of Atolia or something. :D I'm pretty sure its local, though, and I'd love to track down where from.

I'm gonna run off with my sister's Sattelit.  See if I can pick up anything outside. :)

I do know of a store in town that uses Sirius for their over the speaker music, but I forgot where.  I think its the gas station on the north end of town.

Confirm no pickup with the Sattelit 750 and standing outside.  Good music, though.

It seems to have gone quiet, now, around 2100 UTC.  Then came back on, new song, after a minute rest.

It seems to be playing two Depeche Mode songs in a row?  Skipped from Female Power Ballad, to Hiphop, to Depeche Mode.

Back to Hiphop at 2125.  No Sirius today, seems more like someone's iPod, or MP3 CD Burn, set to shuffle.

Now its George Clinton ("I am Sir Nose, D Void of Funk.")

I wonder if its the same stuff we got right now.  Using your SDR, it seems to be on 8.204.720.  Currently playing Hendrix, All Along The Watchtower.  S3-4.  Caught using some FCC unfriendly language, sounded like nigga and "f- yeah!" :P

Catching an audio recording.  Working on 20 minutes.

17645 at 0016-0022, same day.  My sister actually caught it, sent me video.  No idea if I can post it yet.  Seems to be jamming VoA Chinese.  Fairly strong, breaking above the voice.

She's unlisting the video, should be available shortly.

Catching what sounds like a loud, hammering noise.  Very strong, I've been catching this a lot recently.  Any idea what it is?

Did it sound something like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9pXOItLgmM

If so, it's prolly HM01.

Steve

Oh yes, my bad.  I'm used to hearing V2A with that voice, so it was my mistake.  I'll edit the title. :)
