scratch what I just said.....Continental 87...as in the air plane.

Still...despite going in air....i don't picture a plane tracking due N out of Newark to get to China.

At 21:30z on 11387usb caught the HFDL sig from COA87 at position 78.27N, 56.23W, in the northern reaches of Greenland, closing in on the Arctic Ocean on the way from Newark to Shang-Hai.  At that latitude is the farthest North I have ever caught an HFDL signal from my StL locale.  Ah the amusements of the high frequencies!

Dude....ships go "over the top" to get to China via the Arctic Ocean? Am I understanding you correctly? Every now and then, the massive void of ignorance in my brain gets filled with new info and it blows me away.  ;D

General Radio Discussion / Question on M Code software
« on: February 07, 2010, 0050 UTC »
First of all, I want to apologize for my ignorance. There is a 90% chance this question is pretty stupid. But, if I bought some sort of mp3 recorder, and recorded tracks of M-Code from my short wave, is there a program out there that will decipher it for me?

General Radio Discussion / Re: Numbers-where to start

What I like to do is to go to spynumbers.com, and bring up the database section. Click on "See what stations may be on the air next hour", and scan through for fairly recent posts that seem to be repeating frequently, say, within the last year. Then you can camp on a few frequencies and wait for the hour to begin. This works well with the Cuban stations, at least, and others that have a semi-regular schedule.

dude....that's awesome. I've been to that site a 100 times and never noticed that option. thanks!

General Radio Discussion / I agree

I thought I was the only one! I enjoy tinkering with my short wave and particularly numbers stations. I admit I'm very ignorant when it comes anything radio. In fact, in a weird way, it almost makes things more mysterious for me. Weird sounds often remain, well, weird.

I joined that group hoping to learn more about numbers. I found myself overwhelmed and completely baffled. I asked for a task, something simple I could do to contribute and was given a cryptic response along with yet another finger wagging about being inactive.

So, I became inactive.  ;D

6215 AM, 2/11/09, 1500-1509 UTC: Carrier detected 1457 UTC; soft ballad type pop song with male vocalist, unid language, 1500-1504z; 1504-1509z, woman repeating phrases in what sounded like Asian language.  Ended 1509z, carrier dropped 1510z.  Fair signal, fluttering fades.  (N. Central TX)

9 minute mp3, 2.13MB: http://www.mediafire.com/?mmogayn4mtt

That was a cool upload. Good find!
