HF Beacons / Re: 4094 Beacon
« on: January 22, 2021, 0242 UTC »
Have it good on the Northern Utah SDR at 0239Z.  Often see it there and on the CA SDRs.  I'm in CO and have heard it only once here locally in late fall....

Seems to be a regular.  Also see DW nicely there as well.  Saw DW fade deeply on the SDR while the 4094 beacon was good and steady....both likely not located in the same area, I'd think.

Also hearing it well on the Northern Utah SDR at 0233Z.

Could this be the Inyo Whooper?  An imposter maybe?   Listening to the Northern Utah SDR this morning 1445Z I see and hear a dasher on 4097.2 KHz.  Seems to be a bit faster than one dash/sec.  Some fading but overall a pretty good signal into that receiver.

Just rediscovered this again this morning at 1547 on the KPH SDR (I forgot about my initial post!) - thanks for the info Token, and yes, I do see the audio harmonics.  Thanks for pointing that out.

HF Mystery Signals / Re: 2 PPS 0130 UTC 29 Nov 2018

First saw these days ago on some US SDR receivers (via the SDR.HU website).  Found it odd/interesting, but only tonight thought I'd see what I can hear on the radio from my CO QTH.  Sure enough, I can hear 6.5. 7. 7.5 and 8 MHz 'ticks' locally near Denver.  Time now 0520Z, but have been hearing them all evening here.

Spy Numbers / CW Stn on 4088.5 KHz
« on: November 24, 2018, 1457 UTC »
Not sure if this is the right place (I don't want to look like a noob)

Been looking at some online SDRs lately, and this morning seeing/hearing some cw on 4088.5 KHz.  Seems to be a one way transmission (not a qso) - seems to be repeating lines of code, always starting with N3N.

"N3N UA56D3 6NU5DN4 AA3 36"
"N3N UA56DD 74U6UU5 AT5 5N"  and so on.....

Always starts with N3N, and ends with what seems like a sequence number, like 36, then 37 - just now heard 4N instead.

Some fades, so I can't vouch for the accuracy.  About 20 WPM.  I dialed up an SDR in Ft. Collins, CO and was copying it pretty ok there too at the same time as the KPH SDR in CA.

Thoughts anyone?

Did a quick listen for W (no joy) but then dialed up a bit and heard ZN - mostly good with a few deep fades.  Not strong but holding its own.

Time 0352z.

Caught ZN last night right above the W (windy) beacon, about 4103.3 KHz.

Both ZN and W were about the same signal strength - just above the noise, but good enough to easily ID each of them.  Time was 0315Z.

HF Beacons / Re: 40M dasher? 7129.3 khz (with SDR screenshot)

Interesting!  It sure had that look and feel of a dasher.  That might also explain why I couldn't pick it up on any other remote receivers in the SW US....

Hearing it well again this morning (thanks to Token's SDR rcvr in the Mojave Desert) - still not heard on the home receiver.  Time now 1526z.

Got the screenshot attached this time.

Found this while snooping around on 40M on Token's online SDR receiver - 7129.3 KHz.  Weak to medium signal strength, nice traces on the waterfall display.

28 dashes per minutes at 0635z.   Cannot hear it directly here at home NW of Denver....  Been steady like this for 20+ minutes....

I may upload a screenshot later - it's getting late...

HF Beacons / 80M dasher? 3549.98 KHz @ 0545Z
« on: February 06, 2018, 0611 UTC »
Checked the SKCC page late this evening and was browsing the comments, and one guy in MO posted "Our signal is back on 3549.98".  I was curious so I tuned in there and sure enough I heard a dasher of sorts - a short dasher every 5 secs or so.  Rather weak, some qsb but consistently in there.  I asked him how long he had heard it and he said he had it 40 minutes earlier, then tuned off to do something else and came back and it was still there.  Also reported hearing it "sometime last week".

This was very beacon-like, not a guy on a key or keyer.  I listened for maybe 10 minutes before it went off the air around 0550z (or simply faded out altogether).

I hear things from time to time on the ham bands which make me stop and verify that I'm not hearing things (things that sounds like beacons but aren't) - however, as this was heard before, I'll check this freq from time to time.  BTW, 3550 KHz is also the SKCC 80M calling freq.

Some QSB but otherwise pretty good copy on W tonight  TMP 55,  B 119.  No winds dits.  Either it's calm or the wind ripped the anemometer off the pole....I'm guessing the former, and not the latter.

Time now 0628Z - Dec 31 2017

Had some time to play tonight - W coming in pretty well with some QSB - good enough to copy TMP 57 and B(attery) 119.  Battery seems a bit lower than in the recent past....

Must be calm in the desert - heard no wind dits at all.

Also heard "A" 2097 KHz pretty clear....

Local time about midnight // 0700Z

Last night just before 0600Z heard W in the clear - probably the best I have heard it yet.  Not sure if condx were favorable or my noise floor was lower than normal....

TMP 55 B127 with some varying wind dits from the anemometer.  Didn't sound as windy as some nights ;)
