I was born on the cost and I remember people on the beach would use contraptions like that to fire their bait and rigging in chunks of ice about 200 ish feet off the beach and pull in sharks and the biggest fish I’d ever seen. I approve!

General Radio Discussion / Re: expanded FM band in Americas
« on: August 25, 2018, 0018 UTC »
I remember reading somewhere that the FCC thought about extending the Fm band after analog tv was shut off but there wasn’t enough public interest.

So like an idiot, I decided to try to record the transmission on my computer because I was away on the 19th. However when I came back I discovered that my computer never recorded... so I have no idea what happened. Guess I’ll try again next year.

Either a siren or never gonna give you up.
If I get rick rolled by Russia I will light my radio on fire!!!!

Ok so this happened last year and according to a YouTube video I found exactly one year before. At 1900 utc on 8-19-18 uvb-76/MDZhB/ZhUOZ/everybodies favorite white noise machine/ the buzzer WILL start playing a police siren.
I’ll probably be listening So if you’ve ever wanted to say you’ve heard something on 4625, now’s your chance.

Equipment / Loop balun ratio?
« on: March 27, 2018, 2310 UTC »
Lately I’ve decided to try to rebuild my shortwave station and do to space restraints I’ve had to build a loop antenna, I’ve had the thing for a while now it’s 150 feet of number 16 wire on a 5 foot pvc frame hoisted 20 feet in the air. The balun I have is 9:1 and I used it because it’s what I had. I’ve been told to use everything from 1:1 to 12:1. And ideas?

Broadcast Announcements / Ghostship returns to shortwave
« on: March 27, 2018, 2102 UTC »
I am glad to announce that Ghostship radio will soon be back on shortwave. While I’m not sure when exactly the first broadcast will go out I do know that test transmissions on shortwave should begin as soon as Easter on 6915 kHz

General Radio Discussion / Re: Digital pirate tv transmitter
« on: March 10, 2018, 0212 UTC »
Two words: cost prohibitive. Analog and digital transmitters are basically the same except for the modulator. Try finding an ATSC 8VSB modulator for less than $1000.
And if you could do it nobody would see you unless they happened to do a new channel scan while you were transmitting.
So in theory all I’d really need is an ATSC modulator, an amp which I could ether build or get as a kit from Free Fadio Berkeley and an antenna?

General Radio Discussion / Digital pirate tv transmitter

This wil almost definitely demonstrate how little I know about digital tv but is it at all possible to build a digital tv pirate transmitter?

For Sale / Wanted / Barter / Wanted shortwave amp
« on: February 23, 2018, 0547 UTC »
So right now I’m running about 60 watts on 6915 kHz which works well. But I’m wondering if there’s an amp out there that will allow me to bump that up to maybe 300 or so. Any ideas?

This station later became WBCQ. There’s not much reading out there on the internet but there are some news segments on YouTube if you hunt around.

General Radio Discussion / Re: Longwave Pirates?

What kind or range would you get at 190 khz ?  and what power is needed ?  and where am I going to put a 2400' antenna ???

AC
That’s probably the biggest deterrent for this. You would need a huge antenna and a lot of power to load up the antenna. I suppose you could build the mother of all loop antennas.
